Back again. More comparisons of how the show is doing.
Some folks were a little too giddy for the wrong reason yesterday. They looked at the data (and one sentence in particular) then went a little too ooky cooky…
What I found Thursday was that there was more dead air and Public Service Announcements in the Webcast of his show. However, that was not the case in the AM Radio version. Each did not have the same ads during the monitored hour. In fact, there was no terrestrial dead air, and most of those spots were either from payed sponsors, or lobbyists. Whether they were bought at what was his premium rate, I don't know. What is clear is in a major market, they weren't 'higher end' advertisers, by the show's normal standards.
So when you look over Friday's list, keep in mind the AM Radio buy is the one he's really after. The Webcast is nice plus business, but not his target audience.
By the way, in New York, Geraldo Rivera is the show before Rush. Sean Hannity follows him. Wear your leather jacket with the collar up.
Clear Channel is CCO on Nasdaq. Around $13.70.
Here are today's quick stats. (Yes, I do have other things to do…)
32 Ad Council spots.
4 silences.
9 Promos.
That's 45 unpaid spots. (Includes National Guard and Safer Car. Does not include American Petroleum Institute/HHS.)
Leaving 41 paid spots. So less than half the combined spots were paid for, regardless of length. The AM Radio spots are longer. Even the PSAs. However, only 4 AM Radio spots are PSAs. So most of the AM Radio spots are paid for.
And of those paid spots, several appeared more than once on AM Radio in 90 minutes. The buy may have been discounted, but so what.
Also notice there are paid ads that appeared on AM Radio and near that airtime in the Webcast. This wasn't the case Thursday. As ipsos has noted, the company may have paid more for this. But due to the unusual circumstances, not much more.
Staples was the last ad coming out of Geraldo Rivera (the show before Rush.) And the first within his 12-3 span.
Mercedes-Benz of New York and Ebay did not air yesterday, along with Quietess.
The only unusual activity was a mild rise in station promos.
Here's Friday March 9's list.

Now, about Sandra Fluke and Diane Sawyer. I have to give a hug (if my arms will fit) to Rush for the shout out. Make sure it's on good video.
He was recycling stuff today. Light bulbs. Mercury in CFL lightbulbs. (He knows about the mercury in those screens just to his elbow. Or maybe not.)
He was amused that Pat Robertson's network was trumpeting the unemployment figures like the rest of the world. Had a tizzy with Soledad O'Brien's treatment of that blockbuster Obama video. "The blockbuster is you don't want to report who Obama is." Basically.
He is really, really, really trying to get people excited about Mitt Romney. But by two callers, Irene and Victor, it wasn't happening. They're frustrated with Obama, but no one stood out to either caller. Rush tried selling them, but it clearly wasn't working.
He is still trying to paint himself a victim regarding Sandra Fluke. And wanting to get people mad Democrats aren't holding people on our side to the same standard. "This event turned out to be…it wasn't a fluke." He said of his calling her a slut, prostitute and porn actress last week.
About Diane Sawyer, his beef was that she was stunned that so many people on the new Forbes magazine billionaires list describe themselves as 'bootstrap, self made.' Because she used that word. Her husband, movie producer Mike Nichols, is the same kind of guy.
Received the first $1,000,000 director salary for Catch-22 (1970). When percentages were figured in, Nichols became the first director to earn $1,000,000 from a single film with "The Graduate.".
