This is a pretty cool development for the state of Idaho.

Said LeFavour in a Friday twitter post, “I’m running for Congress because I love Idaho and we can do better.”
She is a really neat lady and would be a great addition to the Democratic ranks in the House of Reps.

When my wife and I took our kids to Idaho Pride, we heard her speak.  It was really cool to hear some of her perspective of what it is like in the Idaho House of Representatives.

She admitted it is "hard".

And I have no doubt in my mind it is.

I was an intern for Clint Stennett when Idaho decided to bash on gays even more and adopt a constitutional amendment to make sure they can't get married in the state of Idaho.

Hearing some of the senators speak that day bugged me, but what bothered me the most were the sighs of "relief" that the gays wouldn't be ruining the "sanctity" of marriage in Idaho.  Those were the worst smiles I had ever seen.

So seeing this news brings a good smile to my face.  I'm extremely sure she will be an underdog for this, but who knows, maybe she'll be able to pull of the upset?

I just hope that she'll get some grassroots support, and some support from the Daily Kos community, to help get her elected.

Idaho needs this.

Seriously.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

...to have gotten her announcement about her campaign!

It's obvious I don't live in Idaho and can not vote for Nicole, but I've been a "fan" and supporter for several years already.  Reading and following her on Notes From the Floor.

She's worked so hard for the residents of Idaho - as an out and proud lesbian legislator - and now that she's running for "the people's house" and her work will benefit us all, I'm excited to continue to support her in her efforts!!

    We need more like Nicole!

If you can afford a few bucks to help her get to DC, here's her Act Blue page.

when she was just a community activist. I was the night manager at Kinko's Copies and she was one of our "regulars". The night shift always had certain people that would show up at the vampire hours to get big projects done without hassle.

At the time, I was still kind of a right-winger, although I had already begun to soften considerably (although I would not have felt it at the time). I was already uncomfortable with the GOP's stance of gays and their dismissal of the environment. So I admired Nicole, stalwart and steadfast, showing up so many night to do her best to run flyers and get the word out about whatever-it-was at the time. Even though I thought she was tilting at windmills, but she had pluck and I admired her "despite" her politics.

Now here it is, years later, and I'm on the other side of the fence-- her side. I even ran as a Democrat in a local election (lost, but... eh) and count myself as a big fan of my local representatives (Elliot Werk, Sue Chew & Bill Killen-- yeah, I'm a Bencher). Unfortunately I can't vote in her district... but when she gets on the state-wide ballot, but I'll be talking her up to everyone I meet.

This is great news, and I hope she kicks ass & takes names.

it's impossible. She should not give up that seat in the Idaho House for Congress. She will not come anywhere close to winning. And if she did somehow win, she would have to be so conservative that she would be useless to us. Yes, she would vote for Pelosi as speaker (and maybe not even that), but what good is that if it doesn't help us with any goals we have?

Walt Minnick was a total fluke that corrected itself in 2010. And he was endorsed by the Tea Party.

she's in the Idaho Senate now.  but i get your point.  But she can do a lot of good and can help be the change we need.

the fact that she's gay will "discredit" her with a lot of voters already.  hopefully she writes off the right-wingers and just try to appeal to the "radical" middle (what that means in Idaho, i don't know).  being the underdog, she can basically say a lot and be more honest than if it was a much tighter race.  if she were to be elected, well then. kudos.

so a gay one is asking way too much.
