Another sign that the Arab Spring might not turn into anything liberal.
Egypt's largest party, the "Freedom and Justice Party" which is dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood, held a "women's conference" last week. One of the actions at the conference was the following, according to AFP:
The conference, held Thursday on International Women’s Day, also condemned the 1978 U.N. convention against gender discrimination saying it was “incompatible with the values of Islamic sharia” law, the Al-Ahram newspaper reported.
If you click on the link, you'll see a picture of the "women's conference," which apparently did not include any women in attendance.
The FJP will have a majority in the new Egyptian government. I don't claim to be an expert on what's going on in Egypt, but this seems pretty bad.
