I usually hang out with my running buddy/neighbor on Sunday mornings. We talk about various things, drink coffee, as normal a morning as one could expect in a sleepy little neighborhood in a backwater area outside Atlanta.
This morning I see him outside snooping around his property and I go out and engaging in the pleasantries of greeting.
He's not happy.
He reports he came home with his girlfriend about 5:00 am and saw "2 individuals" in the road. When the headlights hit them they dove behind some bushes at the far end of his yard. (We live on a dead-end - one way in and out and they were near the dead end).
1 'clearly' had a weapon and he drew his hands apart to about 3 feet - possibly a rifle or a shotgun.
He zipped in the house and called the police (and grabbed a boot knife) and was back outside to see them running down the road, fleeing the scene.
What they may have been up to can only be speculation, but there has been a number of thefts in this area as well as a home invasion about 400 yards from my house in the last 10 months. Crime is definitely on the increase here.
Cops here are always complaining about budget cuts and such and it's USUALLY a little bit before they get here; today they were johnny-on-the-spot, arriving about 5 minutes after buddy hung up the phone.
The bad guys, of course, were long gone.
The police got out, talked with my neighbor and looked around.
There is a large field at the end of the road where the pavement ends.
He said they seemed very preoccupied with the field.
The LIKELY reason they MAY have been down here (speculation, speculation, speculation) is the recently empty house right across from me and right next door to my neighbor across the street. I just looked at it last night and except for 1 light out side at one end of the house, it was DARK.
They have a riding mower at the edge of the house under the light. Buddy has complained before that occasionally there would be traffic there at night with some infrequent but recurring arguments. My guess (speculation) is the bad guys (hiding in the bushes at the end of a dead-end road at 5 am in Georgia with a weapon indicates you're up to no good) were considering something about that house.
I have had my wallet stolen out of my truck in the last 2 months as well. A ballsy move considering one has to walk 40 yards onto my property and INTO my carport to accomplish such a task.
Well, our law enforcement experts weren't to focused on the house.
They were focused on the field.
And then..... they went there. Drum roll please:
There could be cannabis growing out there.
Buddy told me this with a wry look on his face.
"I knew you'd get a kick out of that".
I was holding a coke bottle and I made a show of putting it down and doing a Grade A Facepalm™.
Of course, I went off.
Here we are being threatened by potentially dangerous people with numerous crimes reported in the area over the last 10 months and they actually said
There could be cannabis growing out there.
This isn't funny in the least, even though in other circumstances I would laugh.
These numbnuts with badges and guns are paid tax dollars to protect and serve, but what are they actually concerned with????
There could be cannabis growing out there.
Never mind that the field was mowed just 6 weeks ago, apparently to deal with the growing coyote problem.
Never mind it is FUCKING WINTER and NOTHING is growing out there.
There could be cannabis growing out there.
Marijuana prohibition makes cops stupid.
If you're investigating potentially serious crime and you can find a way to be more worried about marijuana then the real crime, you got shit for brains.
Lest you think I am just too harsh, which I'm not, 3 deer emerged from the darkened property, FRIGHTENING those paid to protect and serve, causing them to reach for their guns.
I feel so safe, protected and served.
Legalize the weed and protect your community from crime and give your police officers more appropriate work to do for the money you are paying them.
