This has been a tough week for me meaning that I haven't gotten much done. Last weekend I broke my don't go out rule and spent 8 glorious hours at the Sew & Stitchery Expo in Puyallup with a friend. I had a wonderful time but now I'm paying the price. Until I can get some body work done, scheduled for the end the week, I won't be able to think clearly enough to tackle the fundraising details.
All the blocks are in except for the one I need to make. I went ripping through my stash yesterday and I just don't have the right blue. I do however have the perfect orange. I bought some beautiful hand dyed fabric at the expo last weekend including a pack of 20 fat quarters. The packet included the perfect orange but unfortunately no blue at all. If I'd been thinking I would have found the perfect blue but I wasn't considering how I was going to use the fabric just that I loved it. My current plan is to use the blue that I buy for the sashing along with this wonderful hand dyed orange.
Isn't it fun!
Now for picture of the latest blocks
From Pucklady
You can't tell from the picture but the gold in the center and the white fabric is sparkly.
And here is the block from RLMiller which arrived just yesterday.
Since all the blocks are in I'm going to buy the sashing and back fabric this week. My plan is to look for a batik or blender that has a range of blues, something similar the the blue RLMiller used, maybe a little bit darker. I want something that will incorporate all the blues from the blocks so it ties everything together. I'll use the same fabric for the back and binding.
I have another little hiccup. My machine need to be serviced before I can do anymore sewing. Just yesterday it started skipping stitches bad so Monday morning it will have to go into the shop. Hopefully they'll be able to fix it quickly. I don't think it's anything serious just in need of a good cleaning. I'll use the sewing machine absence to wash all the blocks and get them trimmed to size then hopefully I'll get everything put together next weekend.
We have another important decision that needs everyone's input. We need a name for this quilt. I keep thinking it should be something about community, coming together, supporting each other and the idea that from many comes one. The Jack Johnson song "Better Together" keeps running through my head.

Put your suggestions in the comments and we'll have a vote.
Last but not least, RLMiller has offered to be the DK Quilt Guild ambassador at the convention. Whoo hoo! we have someone to carry the quilt to the convention and make sure it is loved while there. Thanks RL, we are better together!
