If anyone saw this, it only served to remind me how royally screwed we are. I mean, really. But what can President Obama do? He's not some huge corporate slave, but he's not going to force America to cut its carbon emissions by 6% every year. He can't, and if he somehow did it would cost him a huge chunk of his support.
No, the only solution is that paragon of conservatism, "personal responsibility." What's that, you say? Not a snowball's chance in hell? Well, I firmly believe that everyone can cut their emissions that much every year. The biggest problem is spreading the word. That's where I think President Obama should come in. Nobody can attack him for suggesting we cut our emissions. It won't do any harm at all, only good. So I'm asking him to use his unique position to advocate for voluntary emissions cuts. It's the very least he can do. As you may know, no whitehouse.gov petition is publicly visible until it has a certain number of signatures, so please help!

Advocate for reduction of emissions by 6% per year, in keeping with what climatologists say is necessary for our future
Over 95% of climatologists have acknowledged the threat of human-caused climate change/global warming. Many of them have stated that we already passed the point of no return. However, one James Hansen says that reducing carbon emissions by 6% per year may help us save the planet. In just ten years, it might become completely economically unfeasible to cut emissions enough per year to solve the problem. We want the White House, and President Obama specifically, to take a stand on the issue, by advocating voluntary emissions cuts of 6% per year for every American, as well as by continuing or expanding current tax breaks and incentives for alternative energy development and usage. We know that if people demand better, more efficient energy sources and products, businesses will create them.
