Democrats in the Pennsylvania State Senate proposed a resolution on Friday March 16th, 2012 opposing the majority decision in Citizens United v FEC, and supporting Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Saving American Democracy Amendment to the United States Constitution.
Opposing the majority opinion of the United States Supreme Court in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission and
supporting the "Saving American Democracy Amendment" to the Constitution of the United States.
The resolution, which was referred to the state government committee on Friday would an important step for the citizens of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and if this amendment comes to life in Washington to the entire nation in reclaiming our government from monied interests.
This resolution most likely won't make it out of committee, due to the fact that Republicans control the Pennsylvania Senate 30-20. However, it will be a chance to put Republican votes where their interest are, and prevent them from ducking this issue of the sale of our legislative institutions to special interests. Democrats are by no means innocent in this debate, however, these days Republicans are at the fore front of defending wealth over people.
The American people want their government back. Wealth provides certain comforts to those who possess it. Our public officials should not be in the possession of wealth, they should be defending the common good of the people of our Commonwealth, and Nation.
