This is simply awesome. Last night, during Santorum's "values" speech in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Timothy Tross and Ben Clifford interrupted the proceedings with a mic check followed by a passionate kiss.
This delicious form of protest – for which both Tross and Clifford were escorted out of the hall – can be viewed below:
Noteworthy are both the disapproving, shocked gasps from the crowd as the men kiss as well as the confused, spontaneous chants of "U.S.A! U.S.A.!" as Tross and Clifford leave the arena.
It's as though conservative Christians in our country – when faced with the flaunting of an individual freedom they can't bear – can only summon ironic, "patriotic" responses as their synapses freeze.
In reality, the spontaneous, faux show of patriotism from the crowd as a response to two men kissing displays just how un-American their homophobia and anti-gay bigotry actually is.
Irony gone wild, if you will.
When asked about the protest kiss, and whether they were gay, Tross offered the perfect answer to an offensive question:
“I don’t think the message should be about what my sexuality is. It’s the message that he’s saying about sexuality that matters.”
It's Santorum's message that matters, indeed.
