In a story that the liberal media are too afraid to publish, scientists at the National Center For Looking Out For Your Own Good (NCFLOFYOG) have announced that an asteroid has a 43.702% chance of crashing into the Earth on December 21, 2012.
In a quick comment, Senator James Inhofe went on Rachel Maddow's show to announce:
This is obviously a hoax (read my book) by your supporters, Rachel, to destroy our economy. We believe that we can protect the planet by drilling for oil in Alaska and it will speed us up enough to move the planet out of the way.
As a response, Congressman Waxman of California responded:
Typically, the Republicans tied this potential disaster to oil. What we really need is to raise NASA's budget so they can study the orbit of this asteroid.
Senator Mitch McConnell has introduced a bill in the Senate to privatize the asteroid. His office gave a short statement:
We believe that the market can handle this crisis. The last thing we want to do is to spend government money to regulate the solar system. That is why we are in this mess.
Ron Paul's press secretary said that the candidate was unavailable to comment but:
Our campaign is based on Libertarian principles. We believe that the government should just get out of the way. If the asteroid were to destroy the Federal Reserve, Mr. Paul has a plan for mining the gold out of the asteroid to replace it.
Fox News coverage of the prediction by the scientists was:
Dr. Fred Singer of the Heartland Institute has said that asteroids have hit the earth in the past and we are still here. So why is this such a big deal? Clearly, it is because President Obama is in an election year and he refuses again to take responsibility for this asteroid.
In a response, Markos Moulitsas of the political blog, Daily Kos, replied:
That last asteroid strike wiped out the dinosaurs. We actually are looking forward to Republicans being made extinct but we are not advocating an asteroid hit on the planet.
In North Carolina, Pat Robertson assured everyone that it was another sign of God's anger at the passage of so many gay marriage bills.
But if everyone will just pray for the asteroid to pass us by and send a check to Regent University, we are sure that we can buy God off.
Ok, so /snark.
But if you watched James Inhofe on Rachel Maddow this week, you realize that we are getting this ridiculous scenario played out with respect to global warming. In a week where over 2000 record temperatures were set in the US, we continue to put our heads in the sand about acting on CO2 emission rates.
Republicans are willing to conduct an experiment which could destroy 20-40% of the species on this planet (according to IPCC4).
Rachel should have asked Senator Inhofe "Sir, what if the IPCC4 scientists are right and you are wrong?"
