As a livestreamer broadcasting from Sacramento a couple weeks ago said when Occupy Oakland paid a visit to the neo-Nazis on the steps of the Capitol, "Occupy Oakland loves to march." And march they did tonight, cold and wind be damned. In solidarity with Occupy Wall Street and against the brutality the NYPD afflicted upon peaceful protesters in Liberty Square / Zuccotti Park last night.

Back in November, marching in solidarity with Egypt.

In fact Occupy Oakland and TWO Captain Americas marched in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street tonight.

Hanging out before the march. Two Captain Americas behind the iconic Occupy Oakland sign.

They began with a warm up chant

#OO #OccupyOakland #OWS chant "Arrest us we multiply. Hella hella occupy.
as people began to gather at 19th & Telegraph in downtown Oakland. Then the "Oakland and Cairo Are One Fist" solidarity statement sent last fall from Cairo revolutionaries was read to the growing crowd, with its obvious parallels to what has befallen OWS comrades.

Someone from Occupy Wall Street made contact...

Alyssa
#OO #OccupyOakland we have someone from #OWS on the phone. Occupiers locked arms nypd attacked http://campl.us/...

#ows-er on speaker phone telling #oo solidarity rally about police repression. The rally will march shortly.

And the march began,  heading down Broadway...

to the police station, where OPD was caught off guard! Only a few police were there, whereas usually rows of them are lined up whenever Occupy Oakland tries to march past. Could they have been (gasp!) out fighting crime? Leaving them defenseless against the onslaught?

Not to worry. Nothing happened. Other than a dance party breaking out.

Jaime Omar Yassin
we are occupying front of opd station at 7th/bway with dance party, no cops in sight. who's cops? our cops?

At the police station. Party time.

And that's the truth of the matter. When there are no cops to fuck shit up, no shit gets fucked up. It's as simple as that.

Sure, the chants get heavy at times...

Alyssa
#OO #OccupyOakland when OWS is under attack what do we do? Stand up & fight back

Occupy Oakland
"From Oakland to #OWS ! You Fuck with them, You fuck with us!"

But if you don't know why at this point, you just haven't been paying attention.

Still, not to worry. Captain America, who has graced Occupy Oakland for the last several weeks, and his doppleganger who made his (or her?) first appearance tonight, were there with their nigh-indestructible disc-shaped shields made from an experimental alloy of steel and... vibranium, to make sure all was copacetic.

Mission accomplished, the march headed back...

And they made it back to 19th & Telegraph with no police casualties, or any others.

Alyssa
#OO #OccupyOakland this was awesome. And we r back. Beautiful. And tomorrow we have Bday party at Gazebo at lake

Alyssa
#OO #OccupyOakland I haven't seen people this happiest I've seen people since 1st port

There may not be much that Oakland can do for New York, or vice versa, when the police in one are beating peaceful protesters -- even in the age of the Internet 3000 miles is a long way. But just hearing the chants...
GammaSpa
Oakland is New York. New York is Oakland. Chanting from #OO in solidarity with #OWS
should be enough to make those on both coasts, and everywhere in between, keep on going. Truly

Oakland and New York City Are One Fist.

Fell & hurt my ankle on #OWS #solidarity march. #OO really understands #solidarity: the whole march stopped while I bandaged it. #OneLove

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
