I thought what we had learned about the Catholic molestation scandal could not get worse. Threatening complainants with excommunication. Moving accused priests to different locations so they could prey on new victims. All the while blaming Gays in and out of the church for the problem.
Until I find a nugget of history that again shows they will do anything to protect their power in the face of the truth.
At least one boy under the age of 16 was castrated to 'help' his homosexual feelings while in Catholic church care in the 1950s, the NRC reported on Saturday.
But there are indications at least 10 other boys were also castrated, the paper said. The claims were not included in the Deetman report on sexual abuse within the Catholic church published at the end of last year.
The paper says the one confirmed case concerned a boy - Henk Heithuis - who reported being sexually abused by priests to the police in 1956. After giving evidence, he was placed in a Catholic-run psychiatric institution where he was then castrated because of his 'homosexual behaviour'.
If you read Dutch I'm sure the link would make more sense than this translation. Basically what it is saying is when officials investigated the molestation scandal they left out the fact these children were castrated in an attempt to not only blame the victim but to hide the evidence with shame.
H/T to Xavier Onassis for corrected translation:
The Deetman commission, which was commissioned by the Roman Catholic Church to investigate allegations of child abuse within the Church, was informed in writing of the castrations, yet made no mention of them in its final report. According to the commission, the information that was provided to them contained “very few clues to justify proceeding with an investigation”. The informant was said to have been contacted with a request to telephone the commission. Informant Cornelius Rogge (79) says that he never received such a request. It is not clear why the commission chose not to call Rogge.
