Now the GOP is threatening to renege on its budget deal with the Democrats. What a shock. Because actually sticking to the deal might involve some compromise to their core principles (no tax increase on the richest Americans, ever; no cut to defense spending, ever) there is clearly only one solution: go back on their word and throw out the deal.
At some point, the Obama administration may actually realize that today's GOP cannot be counted on to negotiate anything in good faith, ever, and cannot be counted on to stick to a deal even when publicly made and acknowledged. At some point. Meanwhile, more of the travesty that is the GOP House of Representatives...
From contraception to Communist China: Fresh from her failed presidential campaign, Rep. Michelle Bachmann is back...to save us from the evils of a "health care dictator"." Because, you see, if the government can mandate that contraceptive coverage be included in health insurance plans...then there is NO LIMIT to what they will do, and next they will be telling you how many children you can have, just like China. Really. It should surprise no one that she issued her dire warnings of looming totalitarianism on the Glenn beck show, home of every paranoid-delusional conspiracy-theory linkage that the hman mind can generate.
3/8 bachmann and “health care dictator” if govt can mandate contraceptive coverage
If you've seen one tree...: You knew it was going to come to this, didn't you? Rep. Cliff Stearns of Florida thinks it would be a good idea to sell off some national parks. Because really...who needs to preserve that land for the benefit of future generations? The federal government doesn't have the money. And it'll have even less, once the GOP gets its way and we lower taxes on the richest Americans and on corporations...again. Job creators, you know. After all, look at alll the millions of well-paying, middle-class jobs created by the Bush tax cuts.

Gay marriage! Ohh, scary! Now it's the turn of Rep. Vern Buchanan of Florida to get out the sharp stick and poke gays in the eye. Well, poke President Obama in the eye, I guess, for the grave offense of allegedly failing to enforce the sadly misnamed "Defense of Marriage Act." Which as it turns out, is false, because the Obama administration continues to enforce DOMA (as the linked diary makes clear). What they have announced they will not do is defend it in Federal court, which is their right. And so the GOP continues its pathetic, failed last stand against equality before the law for citizens of all sexual orientations.
Guns, not butter: And last but not least...as everyone pretty much expected...Boehner and Cantor are now set to renege on the budget deal already agreed to and move to block any cuts to defense spending. Which of course will entail massive cuts to all other discretionary spending. Perhpas they will try to mitigate the blow by following Rep. Stearns' plan to sell national parks. But perhaps we should consider some facts first:
The U.S. has the most powerful military in the world.
The U.S. Navy has more combat power than every other navy in the world, combined.
The U.S. Marine Corps, basically a second army, is larger than the regular armies of almost every nation in the world.
The U.S. Army is the best trained and equipped in the world.
The U.S. Air Force has more tactical and strategic combat ability than any other in the world.
The GOP is now starting to talk about a "hollow military" if even modest budget cuts are made. That word, "hollow," I do not think it means what they think it means.
