Really Mitt? You can’t understand why young people vote for Democrats?! Because Democrats support benefits for old people, creating huge deficits that the young will have to pay for….?!
Maybe this will help you understand, you miserable excuse for a human being.
Maybe it’s because young people have parents and grand-parents and aunts and uncles who’s very lives, and any shred of dignity they have in their remaining time on this earth, are utterly dependent upon these “benefits.”
Maybe they are smart enough to understand that they too will someday hopefully grow old, and they understand the need, in fact the moral imperative, for our society to pull together and act collectively to provide access to affordable healthcare for everybody, not just the wealthy and those lucky enough to have a job where the employer is willing to “provide” healthcare insurance.
Maybe they are decent enough and smart enough to reject the Republican goal of denying healthcare to everyone less fortunate than themselves because of their greed.
And maybe they are smart enough to understand that (1) social security is not a Ponzi scheme, that (2) social security has done more to alleviate poverty in this country than almost any other government program ever devised, except maybe public education, and that (3) social security isn’t adding to the deficit in the first place, you dumb fuck.
And just maybe it’s because young people have figured out that Republicans are a bunch of lying weasels who delight in their ideological ignorance, their meanness and their moral depravity. All they have to do is listen to you or your opponents for the Republican nomination for a few minutes to figure that out. Go ahead and tell them again that Obama wants gas prices to go up and wants people to be unemployed. Tell them again how Obama wants to take away their light bulbs! Tell them again that story about how Obama destroyed the auto industry, and the economy in general, nay the entire universe (!) by saving the auto industry. Do you listen to the stupid things you say? Or do you know that you are a lying ass-wipe when you say these things just to fire up your stupid Republican “base?” Literally. Stupid.
Why don’t you tell young people again that Obama is responsible for the deficit, when anyone who is only moderately informed and paying attention only once and a while can figure out pretty easily that the tax cuts passed and the wars waged by the Bush administration are responsible for most of the current deficits?
Why don’t you continue to tell young people to ignore the data and the logic that compels them to fear for their futures on this world due to mankind caused climate change, and then ask them again why they don’t vote for Republicans who, for short term political gain, deny science, reject the roles that evolution and the laws of physics play in this world. Tell them again that climate change is a hoax perpetrated by evil science guys and that the fact that it snowed somewhere yesterday means climate change isn’t happening and the ice caps are not disappearing and the sea levels are not rising and that what young people really need to be worrying about is what is going on in the uteruses of sluts.
Maybe young people don’t vote for Republicans because they are not of the 1%, and have the mental capacity to observe the ridiculous concentration of wealth in the top 1% in the last 20-40 years, and so understand the lunacy of calling for additional tax cuts for the wealthy. Any maybe they have read an essay or article or two written by Paul Krugman, who they think is a pretty smart guy who probably knows a thing or two more than they do about economics, and they actually agree that additional, drastic spending cuts by government has been exactly the wrong thing to do as a matter of public policy in response to the economic disaster brought to them by, you guessed it, REPUBLICANS.
Any maybe they don’t vote for Republicans because they are not so stupid as to believe that throwing money at “job creators” is a good idea, because they understand that jobs are created by real demand for goods and services, not piles of cash lying around.
And tell young people again why they should have no say in their government or what their government does because unaccountable corporations and rich people need to have an unfettered right and ability to run the whole show and pick the winning representatives.
And finally, tell young people again why it is in their self-interest for vote for Republican theocrats who seem to think that the sole purpose of government is to enable Republicans to shove an extreme, conservative religious agenda down young people’s throats, people who understand that respect for life doesn’t equate to prohibiting all abortions and who support the use of contraceptives for birth control, people who support the goals and objectives of Planned Parenthood and NPR and also understand the need for stem cell research.
