Below is a letter to the editor that I submitted to the Wisconsin State Journal. It didn't get published so I figured I should put it up here.
Scott Walker has failed. He must be replaced.
An increasing number of Gov. Scott Walker’s top aides and associates are facing felony and misdemeanor charges, two of which have already pleaded guilty and one has already been convicted.
Regardless of whether or not Scott Walker is charged, the investigation reveals that he has been grossly negligent in the management of his staff. To date, six of his close aides or associates have been charged with stealing from veterans groups, using public resources campaign, violating campaign finance laws, and disgusting child sex crimes.
With so much of this alleged illegal activity occurring less than 10 yards from his desk, the John Doe investigation has already proved that Scott Walker is unfit for the office of Governor. Either he failed as a boss to know what his employees were doing during their workday or he knew that his staff was engaged in criminal activity. We also know from the guilty pleas that either he is a terrible judge of character, or he intentionally seeks out people with character flaws that he can exploit for his own political gain.
We can ignore all the false statements made by Scott Walker and his administration regarding our state budget, state union workers and the amount of jobs his policies are responsible for creating. We can dismiss the recent decision he made to take the state’s share of the money from the federal loan fraud settlement to plug the state’s deficit instead of distributing it to defrauded mortgage holders. We can ignore all of that and still conclude that Gov. Walker lacks the basic skills and ability to run an office and appoint good, qualified people to manage the affairs of state.
With six aides or associates of Scott Walker charged and two pleading guilty (so far), Wisconsin must replace this governor before his failures cause further damage to the state.
