Ahhhh.
It's like a breath of fresh air.
What with all the talk about religious freedom and birth control and my uterus and how jebus rode dinosaurs and global warming denialism and stuff, I feel like I need to go to this rally just to balance out the crazy seeping into the atmosphere like radon.
Check it:
It's Saturday March 24 from 10a to 6p and it's FREE!
From the webpage:
The intent is to unify, energize, and embolden secular people nationwide, while dispelling the negative opinions held by so much of American society… and having a damn good time doing it! It will be the largest secular event in world history. There will be music, comedy, great speakers, and lots of fun… and it’s free!
Well now. I can get behind THAT!
http://reasonrally.org/...
They've got a nice lineup of speakers and entertainers including Dawkins, Izzard, Adam savage (from Mythbusters), and dear Jessica Ahlquist (that student who got bullied because she was an atheist).
Some nice bands, some good comedians on the lineup. It should be fun. There are even some complementary events that are free like "Black Nonbelievers Reason Rally After-party Starring Graydon Square" (not full yet but I think I might go) to several that are already booked up like: American Humanist Association's Rally Reception and the Freedom From Religion's Pre-Rally Dinner Party. (Darn I missed FREE FOOD!??!? My god my god why hast thou forsaken me?!)
Anyway, if you're in the DC area, come on out. It looks like it's going to be a blast.
But politically, I have to say this: It's time for those who are NOT religious to begin coming out of the shadows lest the country be destroyed by those who would impose, through policy, their religious beliefs on the rest of us. This is a country whose foundation is NOT tied to any religion. It is, by design, a secular government. I want to keep it that way. Indeed, I'd like to to become more of what was intended rather than less. As it says on their website:
Nontheists from all corners of the nation will descend on Washington, D.C. en masse to deliver the good news: “We’re huge, we’re everywhere, and we’re growing.
Support this event by coming if you can. If not, and you are able, toss a few bucks their way.
It's time.
(bonus: cherry blossoms! Maybe I'll post some photos and video of the event here at Dkos. what do you say?)
