It really irritates me when school officials try to interject their hatred on kids trying to do the right thing. The straight student body president was having a debate and vote on the issue to change their Prom King/Queen process so that it could be a Royal Couple and allow gay couples to be involved.
The students elected representatives who plan and put together the prom were doing their elected duty and having a vote on it, but school officials had to intervene and try to impose their hatred on the students. They ousted the student body president when he wouldn't back down on the issue and now he is suing the school and wants to be re-instated.
I am more hopeful than ever about the youth in our country. Considering this happened in pretty deep south Georgia where I am sure these kids have grown up ingrained by their community that being gay is wrong, sinful and despicable, it is amazing to me that the school would need to even worry about the outcome of a student body vote on the issue.
Hurray for the younger generation! Their time cannot come soon enough for me.
