Geraldo Rivera's taken a well-deserved beating for suggesting that Trayvon Martin would still be alive today if he wasn't wearing a hoodie. But has that stopped him? Not by a longshot. He's spent the whole weekend doubling down on his idiocy.
Just hours after his appearance on Fox and Friends, Rivera expanded on his idiocy at his column for Faux News Latino.
I want the feds to thoroughly investigate and prosecute vigorously if the evidence warrants. But understanding the wrath currently focused on George Zimmerman and the police chief and the town council and the gun sellers and everyone else, I am begging parents of kids in Trayvon’s vulnerable demographic to heed my politically incorrect approach to this story.
If you dress like a hoodlum eventually some schmuck is going to take you at your word.
I'm a 6-2 black guy, 230 pounds. And I have a Carolina hoodie that I frequently wear during the winter, particularly on my trips back to Chapel Hill. By Geraldo's so-called logic, add that up and that's pretty much an invitation for me to get pulled over on I-85 or I-40 for "DWB" (driving while black), or to get turned away at the gate even though I have a ticket unless I take my hoodie off. But I've never had either of those happen to me even ONCE.
Geraldo's been digging himself a deeper hole on his Twitter feed as well. The most comical tweet so far claims that he's gotten a ton of emails from black and Latina moms supporting him. Really, Geraldo? Care to show us those emails? If he's been getting any positive feedback on Twitter, I haven't gotten any. And Roland Martin called BS on it, saying that most of the minority moms who follow him think Geraldo is full of it.
It's going to be a wonder if Geraldo can walk on Monday--he's probably got both feet stuck in his mouth.
