It's true. As of today, in one cubical in one building in one city in one of these United States, DOMA no longer holds sway.
OPM has directed Golinski's insurer to begin providing equal coverage for her wife, Amy Cunninghis.
Even though an appeal is pending in the case of
Golinski v. Office of Personnel Management, Amy Cunninghis, legally wedded spouse of Karen Golinski in the State of California, is now receiving health insurance benefits from the Federal Government. This despite the fact that, as announced by the Administration, DOMA is still being "enforced."
Golinski is a staff lawyer for the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals, located at 95 7th St, San Francisco. Appropriately then, deep in the heart of The City by the Bay, Harvey Milk's adopted town, at least from the hours of 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM on weekdays, DOMA no longer rules.
There are other interesting developments announced today in the Golinski and Gill cases. See Jacob Coomb's article at Prop 8 Trial Tracker and the aforreferenced article at Polyglot for all the juicy (if you're a DOMA, legal or equal rights nerd) details.
