Happy Friday again beer lovers! What's up with you?
Grainpaw suggested a "beer in cinema" diary, to go along with the (still being worked on) "beer in literature". But neither of us have written it yet and that's not what this is.
Tonight's film is a home-made and home-distributed "bockumentary" titled American Beer, directed by Paul Kermizian. If you can find it on netflix I think any craft beer fan will enjoy watching it. (Make sure you don't order the 1994 film of the same name).
In June of 2002, five friends left New York City by minivan and set out across the United States to visit 38 breweries in 40 days.
The concept is: "if you give us beer you can be in our movie". In their 12,000 mile jaunt across America and back they talk to a lot of notable names in craft beer including Sam Calagione and Fritz Maytag. They visit New Glarus, New Belgium, Hale's, Magic Hat, Abita, Anderson Valley, Yuengling and too many others to list. They also get so much free beer that pretty soon they have one standard interview question: "What do you recommend for a hangover?" [It's one of the norcal brewers who answers "a joint".]
Find a copy and invite some beer-loving friends to watch.

A few months ago I diaried about making limoncello. It's delicious and the friends who got some for Christmas are pretty happy. It's lemon season again and I think this year I'll make twice as much. The BevMo clerk will be thinking "I've never seen anyone over college age buy a gallon of Everclear!" Any of you who live in citrus-growing areas, I strongly suggest you try it. A friend or neighbor with a lemon tree will probably be happy to give them away.
On a non-drinking subject, sports fans can enjoy the convergence of two seasons this weekend, as basketball ends and baseball begins. My team plays Sunday night, Go Stanford!
What are you drinking? I've got good old SN Green Label, and "Rampage" double IPA from Black Diamond for later.
