The republican economic model is in full display today proving it is a failure. I should have seen this much sooner in my life and that fact that is was smacking me in the face for years but I did not see it shocks me.
The area I mention this in may make some people here upset, but I hope they can put there passion aside, and understand my point.
More below the fold as I don't want this point chopped :)
I am a Pittsburgh Pirate fan. The ultimate of the loveable losers. The record holder of the most consecutitve losing seasons in all four major sports at 19 (This year don't look any better and number 20 will be upon us)
While all other major sports have revenue sharing, you see that teams are more equal to compete. MLB is unique in that teams keep most of their own revenue and you have big market teams (uber rich) some medium size markets (upper middle class) and the rest.
The Pirates fall at the very bottom of the rest here. As they can not compete to sign quality players & they constantly have to trade their own good players before they lose them.
As the uber rich teams (like the Yankees) are able to literally buy there way to the playoffs & bring in more national revenue, they are able to set the rules. Teams like the Pirates are made to feel happy to just make a tiny profit and be the punching bags that the upper echelon beat up for their own amusement and raid for the one or two good players that may come their way (via the minors).
The redistribution of revenue has made the NFL the most popular sport. A sport where a team like Green Bay located in the smallest of markets can comepete with teams from NY. The NFL model works for all.
The MLB model works for the elite only.
The Yankees are the 1%, the team of Rove, Mittens, and the like.
The Priates are the team of America, struggling to make it (competetively on the field). The Pirates are the team represenative of most of us.
I AM A PIRATES FAN!
