Everything about my morning was the same – except for one thing.
I had just arrived downtown and was exiting the parking garage at the street level of the 411 Building in Milwaukee when I observed what appeared to be our frazzled governor emerge from the parking garage stairwell. I must be seeing things, because why would our embattled Governor be in Milwaukee today?
As I got closer – maybe 40 feet away - I realized that my suspicions were indeed accurate. As Gov. Walker stepped off the curb and jaywalked across Jefferson Street his bald spot glared back at me as if to say “you can’t see me, you can’t hear me, and none of this ever happened.” He slipped into a side entrance of the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse (in Milwaukee County) in an obvious hurry. I am sure he was hoping no one would identify him.
Why would Walker be in Milwaukee today? Maybe he is thanking the Milwaukee Police and Fire Unions for their ringing endorsement in the upcoming recall election. Perhaps he had to get something from his home in Wauwatosa and decided to also visit his old stomping ground? Or, since today is the GOP Primary in Wisconsin, he was in town to stump for some of his friends….
Or, perhaps, just maybe, he was summoned by the DA in the ongoing John Doe case that Walker vehemently denies having anything to do with. But I can’t be sure – I only saw him hurry across the street and duck into a side entrance of the Milwaukee County Federal Building.
It was 8:50 in the morning – and, alas, I could not get my camera phone out quick enough to snap a photo. But, judging from how fast Scott Walker can jaywalk, I bet he was wishing Milwaukee had its own network of underground tunnels like Madison!
