Now, for that important birthday and anniversary. On this date in 1968, Muddy Waters held a birthday party for himself in Chicago. The spirit was muted by the awful news that Martin Luther King had been assassinated that morning in Memphis. Waters's friend and collaborator composed the following song on the spot:
Later that night, in Indianapolis, Robert Kennedy informed a crowd in Indianapolis of the news:
A couple of months later, Bobby was gone. And this country has never been the same since.
