You don't believe...I get it. You're ultra cool. You're hip, because you once were this or that and because some shit happened to you, you no longer believe. Hence, others who choose to stay on whatever spiritual path they seek are looney and so on and so on...That's the reasoning...but guess what, it speaks more about you than it does me or others who choose to believe that there is something greater than us as a species....and frankly, there is only so much i'm willing to read on this site before the calling out begins..follow me.
I've been reading the tit for tat going on on this site regarding religion. What I find funny is that a site that consistently prides itself on "inclusion" is so proud of it's ultra hip atheist street cred that some here feel emboldened enough to start targeting those within the site that have a different belief.
Tell me, how the fuck does that make you different than those who have either persecuted you in the past or who have used religion as a means to control or obtain power. How are YOU different when you think because you're on a liberal website you have the fucking right to mock the beliefs of others.
At this point i see no different in that tactics in what is going on here from the ultra right wing religious crazies that try to force religious doctrine down our throats. The effect is the same.
Some form of religion have been around since the dawn of man. Think about it. Since we've been on this wonderful earth of ours, humans have always believed there was something greater than us out there. Even through all the advances in science, knowledge, human evolution...human beings have always believe that there is something greater than ourselves.
Why do I say this? Because the truth is, we don't know all the answers. Science has not been able to explain all the events of the world. Why do we use only 10% of our brains? Are we alone in the Universe? What is the universe made of? What is the biological basis of consciousness? Here's a basic one..how is this complex organism known as the human body able to do what it does? These are basic questions scientists have yet to resolve.
Who knows when the answers will be known, but at this point, what scientist have given us is Theory. Not unequivocal explanations. And that's my point. For those who do not believe and claim science over everything. There is much for us as humans to understand. We like to think we know everything and that events around us are factual and can be explained by basic scientific algorithms, but if that was the case, the answers to our questions would have been solved long ago.
Now, as for my beliefs. I believe what I believe. I believe in God. Point blank. Now whether I choose to apply some catholic, islamic, or jewish dogma on that belief is up to me. Belief in God is different from being part of a religious block. Actual religious affiliation allows others to commune and support each other. Do some people use this affiliation for selfish purposes? Ofcourse. We are human beings, our very essence is sinful in nature. But the acts of a few do not define the entire flock. If that was the case, then all of us, including those on this site would be dammed for the acts that our governments do on "behalf" of its citizens.
I believe what I believe, and that's on me. I don't try to force it on you because that is not my place. God gave us free will to determine our own paths. That means, if I choose to believe that doing good and refraining from a life of sin will save me in the afterlife..that's me. If you choose to say fuck the free world and do as you wish, that's on you. But I am not the one to judge you and you are definitely not the one to judge me. We will ultimately find out who is right in the end, because that's the only certainty. Our turn on this sphere will end and one of us will be proven right.
In the mean time, live your life. But live it respectfully. I have been on this site long enough to feel some anti-religious sentiment show its face. I see how this site reacts when they see some event by a christian or jewish group against muslims and how how quick some on this site go to the defense of muslims. As they should. Just as they should if the roles were reversed. But what is sad here is that when Atheists have attacked Christians or others of different faiths beliefs, there is a deft silence. Now, some of faith on here have stirred the pot, but i'm sorry to say that most of the issues regarding religion on here have started by those who choose to challenge the mental capabilities of believers.
That, I will not stand for. If being an Atheist is a belief, then what makes you think I would let you project your beliefs unto me? What makes you think i would sit back and let you mock and deride me. I wouldn't. I won't.
As much as some don't believe, those same people cannot tell me exactness. Just like those who believe cannot do the same. You can't tell me the exact age of the planets, much like I can't tell you at what point in time God said let there be light. Because science is a theory and faith is a belief. That's what it comes down to. Theory and belief...neither of which has a concrete and definite answer.
So as you can see, the belief of an atheist can be questioned just as much as that of a christian, mulsim, or jew. Everybody's shit stinks. So let's not act like one's is better than the other,
Do you and I'll do me..it's that simple.
