I wasn't asked to write this or obligated to write it by anyone. Instead, a friend clued me in to something, and from allegiance to scientific method (facts before opinions) I'm bound to write this.
More below the sleeping orange squirrels with their fluffy orange tails.
BTW, this isn't a "call-out" diary and if anyone thinks it is, I'll happily delete it.
Geekesque and I have at least two things in common, the second of which I didn't know about until tonight.
One is that we both have Geek in our userID.
The other is our love and support for Obama. (Even despite my criticisms of Obama's policies from time to time: loyalty does not exclude criticism.)
For a few weeks now, Geekesque and I have been tangling & wrangling over the health insurance mandate. It's no secret that he thinks it's constitutional and I don't, and that both of us are ferocious, feisty, and even fiery in our respective opinions.
But the purpose of this diary isn't to debate the mandate, and I'll exercise as much self-discipline as possible in avoiding that digression here.
In any case, we've had quite a wrestling match for the past couple of weeks.
And along the way I developed the hypothesis that Geekesque must be (must be, dammit!) at minimum a conservative Democrat, or worse, to be taking the position he does.
Turns out that hypothesis has just been falsified bigtime.
A friend who is much more aware of Geekesque's posts around here, informed me tonight that Geekesque is actually a ferocious Obama supporter, worked hard for Obama's election in 2008, and defends Obama and (most of) his policies vigorously.
When the facts contradict the hypothesis, the hypothesis goes out the window.
So with that I'll say clearly and unequivocally that I'm sorry for having gone after Geekesque as ferociously as I did, and that I'll interpret his posts & comments in the future in light of the new data whereby we're on the same page about our support for Obama.
Normally I don't publish diaries in the middle of the night but this kinda' needed to be ASAP because the feisty stuff has been going on tonight as well, and it's time to make clear I'm stopping that as of now.
I'll be around for another hour or two for comments, and then mid-day Thursday before I head out to client's sites.
