Mostly, I just 'don't get it' when it comes to rethugs, and their financial sponsors. Now, 'union busting' has been a rethug 'staple' forever, but how, in the middle of the worst economic period in 70 years, do they get so much more traction than they have had in the past? I realize the 'big lie' tactics being used, but are we, the American people, that ignorant?  How do the zillionaires and their corporations expect workers to buy anything, if they are very poorly paid, and how can they expect high productivity and worksmanship from half starved, poorly treated 'serfs'?
How can the rethugs expect to win any elections, when they actively work to alienate and humiliate the female 51% of the population. (And encourage unequal pay as in Wisconsin) (And BTW, men are also 'invested' in contraception, paternity suits are messy.)
How can they keep up the facade of 'climate change denial' in the face of overwhelming evidence? (I know, the polluters have very deep pockets, but still...)

And finally, how could five men, invested with lifetime appointments, charged with "preserving and defending the Constitution", decide to throw the nation's politics (and democracy itself) away, to the highest bidder? (What one of our Kossacks has succinctly called the "Crankocracy".)
The rethugs must be crazy, or is it just me?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

proficient in stealing our democracy from working people for the benefit of the rich by using carefully crafted, emotionally charged messages that appeal to disparate groups even though they make no sense from a rational analysis.  Too many voters act on their feelings, their sense of belonging to a group, not on any actual consideration of the issues and which candidate would best represent their overall interests.

Fear.  They learned a long time ago that their followers' can be herded by stoking it.  Those think tanks, and the money poured into them, were brilliant.

I have been paying attention, in '75 the rethugs , at least most of them, tried to sound 'reasonable', and you could disagree without being labelled a 'traitor'.  Things started to get  truly ugly in '81, but even Runny Rayguns cared enough about the idea of government to raise needed taxes. The current crop of shitheads are satisfied with enormous lies and big crankocracy donations, sick greed to feed sicker delusions.

  •  They got the traction because we put them in (0+ / 0-)

office in 2010 and 2011, giving them carte blanche.  As far as the zillionaires go, they don't need us to buy their stuff anymore.  There's China and India to feed on now.  Much bigger markets, with a whole lot more people than us willing to work for a whole lot less.

  •  "Union busting" is more important than ever with (0+ / 0-)

advent of Citizens United since unions are among the few organizations who can compete with corporations giving millions of dollars to the repugs.
