National Organization for Marriage President, Brian Brown (Common Good/

Disgusting.
Having failed to persuade more than 30,000 of 300,000,000 Americans to boycott Starbucks, National Organization for Marriage has decided to take their
hateful campaign international.
BROWN: In our first week, we gained 25,000 pledge signers in the U.S. alone; today we go international, expanding DumpStarbucks.com campaigns into Mandarin, Arabic, Turkish, Spanish, and Bahala (one of the chief languages of Indonesia). DumpStarbucks.com online ads will also start running in Egypt, Beijing, Hong Kong, the Yunnan region of China, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait.
What happens in Seattle won’t to stay in Seattle. By making gay marriage core to his brand, Starbucks CEO Howard Schulz is telling millions of customers and partners who support traditional marriage in the Middle East, China, South America and North America that they aren’t truly part of the Starbucks community.
From
Think Progress:
NOM is specifically targeting countries that criminalize homosexuality, like Kuwait and Oman, and even some that punish it with the death penalty, like the United Arab Emirates. The Dump Starbucks webpage tells its visitors that the coffee company’s support of marriage equality will “eliminate” the “definition of marriage between one man and one woman.” Sowing such seeds of fear in countries already opposed to homosexuality extends far beyond “fanning hostility” and could foster increased hostilities against people just for the coffee they choose to drink.
They are so smug, and proud of themselves, but they are just behaving like monstrous, little children that are out of their element.
This movement will not evade marriage equality there. Gay marriage is not coming to China, United Arab Emirates or any of those other places.
And as with America, their silly boycott will fail to make an impression on consumers.
What this will do is stir up bigotry, prejudice, fear and hate. And once that happens, the cost will be measured in lives, hate crimes, prison sentences, murder.
Local papers commenced witch hunts
This is exactly the sort of meddling that Scott Lively and other American Christian evangelicals, including Rick Warren did in Uganda in 2008. From the
New York Times:
For three days, according to participants and audio recordings, thousands of Ugandans, including police officers, teachers and national politicians, listened raptly to the Americans, who were presented as experts on homosexuality. The visitors discussed how to make gay people straight, how gay men often sodomized teenage boys and how “the gay movement is an evil institution” whose goal is “to defeat the marriage-based society and replace it with a culture of sexual promiscuity.”
In the year that followed, witch hunts commenced and the Ugandan parliment was serving up a "Kill The Gays" bill, and
Rick Warren was trying hard to distance himself from it.
But you can't start a fire, and control what gets burned.
And as night follows day, shortly one of the few LGBT rights activists in Uganda, David Kato was found murdered in his home, bludgeoned to death with a hammer.
National Organization for Marriage is behaving very irresponsibly here, and with a depraved indifference to the potential consequences of their actions. It isn't enough that here in the states they prompt LGBT teens to kill themselves rather than face another day being called degenerates and being told they aren't loved by God. Now they have to take their hateful message to some of the most vulnerable, powerless LGBT people on the Earth.
There will be blood on their hands and may God have mercy on their souls.
5:25 PM PT: Oh look! Gambia just arrested 15 men for "suspected homosexuality." NOM better make sure Gambia is on their international gay bashing hit list. Sounds promising.
