I don't like Representative Chris Holbert (R-Parker), so this is not unbiased :-) I did not actually meet him personally, but had the occasion to speak with one of his representatives at the State Capitol. I was there to solicit his support against HB-1130 (a backdoor to Personhood, which has been defeated by over 70% BOTH times by voters) and SM-003, a version of the Blunt Amendment. His representative informed me in no uncertain terms that Rep. Holbert fully supported both measures AND Personhood. I said, "Ken Buck," and she stomped off in a huff, not bothering to say goodbye.
That was the beginning of my intense dislike for Chris Holbert.
Yesterday, I happened to be reading Colorado Pols when I saw this.
As the Denver newspaper reports, the Colorado House today voted to approve a $19 billion state budget by a 64-1 margin.
The sole 'NO' vote was from Republican Rep. Chris Holbert, who fellow Republicans say apparently wouldn't support the budget because he was mad that his caucus rejected his idea for a budget amendment dealing with abortion -- presumably because they understood how bad it would look for the GOP to hijack the budget process over abortion in a state where the "Personhood" amendment continues to get voted down in overwhelming numbers.
But hey, good job sticking to your, uh, principles or whatever, Chris. If they won't play by your rules, just refuse to play!
Unbelievable. This fool attempted to derail a $19 billion bipartisan budget because of his passionate hatred for women and insane desire to control our reproductive rights. Fortunately, his fellow Republicans had more sense than to join in, although it may have been for one of two reasons: to pass the budget before the end of the session, or because they realized that Colorado women would be very angry.
But it seems that Rep. Holbert is merely a puppet, as referenced by this sorry incident.
However, it seems that he is not an ALEC puppet. Maybe they thought that too many anti-choice groups had hold of his strings, and there wasn't one left for them.
Good news: He's up for reelection in November.
Bad news: He doesn't have an opponent. Yet.
Does anyone know of a Democrat willing to run for House District 44? Please? I'll go door-to-door, bake cookies, make signs...anything to get rid of this horrid, dangerous, misogynistic, pompous fool.
