Y'know, I for one am now glad that Ann Romney has come out of the closet in her full throated and well stated support for the "Choices" that women make. Particularly when those choices involve dedicating themselves to care of their family.
I'm glad she's standing strong for women, and their ability to pursue the wonderful Option of being a Stay-At-Home Mother. We should honor this work. The mutiple jobs of being a au pair/Nanny/Chauffeur/Homemaker/Cook/Housekeeper/Plumber/Nurse/Educator has enormous value in our society. It couldn't function without this.
I'm not even going to mention the fact that Ann Romney herself essentially paid other people to do these jobs for her - or that all her children are grown with children of their own, so what's keeping her at home, her Dressage Horse or supervising the construction of the Romney Car Elevator? - never mind all that, let's just all agree that these are important jobs and they should be treated exactly as important as they are.
Now that we all agree, I await with baited breathe the upcoming announcement from the Romney campaign, or his better half, their strong and vehement support for granting full employment rights and protections for Stay At Home Mothers.
I'm certain that Mitt Romney will support tax breaks for Mothers that will allow them to better navigate rough economic waters. That they'll support government subsidies to allow women the Freedom to stay at home and take care of their children, and feed them without having to have a "job" if they want to. I'm certain that the Romney campaign will be - any second now - endorsing the idea of granting Social Security Benefits to Mother's for their years of service in the home. I'm sure that Romney will endorse guaranteed health care for all mothers and their children, regardless of their ability to pay or whether they also work outside the home.
Yeah, any second now...
I'm sure that Ann Romney and her Husband will have a quick and swift answer to the question of whether they support the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act?
@DavidCornDC Sam Stein asks Romney folks if Romney who loves women supports Lily Ledbetter Act. A terse reply: "We'll get back to you on that."
... Uh, or not...
Surely Mitt Romney Supports the Violence Against Women Act?
During an “Ask Mitt Anything” forum at the Derry-Salem Elks Club here, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney demurred when an audience member asked him whether he would hold up reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act on the grounds that it kept men from visiting their children.
“I’m not familiar with the Act,” Romney replied
And certainly Ann and Mitt would support Paid Sick Leave for Parents
dealing with an ill child?
Ann Romney has tweeted, “All moms are entitled to choose their path.” But unfortunately for low-wage working moms and nearly half of private sector workers, the” choice” is either “go to work and send my sick kid to school” or “stay at home with my sick child and risk losing my job or needed income.” That’s a choice no parent should have to make. Does Mitt Romney agree?
Women are now half of all workers on U.S. payrolls and breadwinners or co-breadwinners in nearly two-thirds of all families. Their incomes are sorely needed to provide basic economic security for their families.
Yet the U.S. also faces high rates of work-family conflict with few laws to support working families. One of the biggest culprits is workers’ lack of paid sick days to care for themselves, an elderly parent, or a sick kid – an issue that has been largely absent in the election debates.
Now that we're all on same page as to the importance of mother's I'm sure we'll be hearing some highly visionary proposals from the Romney's on this issue.
Certainly they won't claim that such measures would put too high a burden on "job creators"? Pfft. Never. Who would say such a thing? Think about the Children!
Clearly if someone were to viciously attack a mother, like say, Hilary Rosen, the Romney's would obviously stand up and condemn such an unfair attack.
From people like Keith Ablow.
These “anti-gender” women have it in for anyone who embraces her femininity, maternal instincts and capacity to nurture as their highest priority — postponing or passing up other laudable opportunities to work at, say, a law firm or as a marketing executive. They despise the notion that some women may indeed be drawn — instinctively and happily — toward creating special and loving environments in which to raise their children, while spending all their available time sustaining and enriching those environments and those children.
They despise the parts of themselves that may be drawn to such roles, as well. That’s why women like Hilary Rosen make such outlandish statements, to begin with.
And the so-called
Catholic League
@CatholicLeague: Lesbian Dem Hilary Rosen tells Ann Romney she never worked a day in her life. Unlike Rosen, who had to adopt kids, Ann raised 5 of her own.
Since anytime someone on one side of the partisan divide says something over-the-top, everyone on their side has to blatantly
disavow it or else be tarred by it - I'm sure that condemnation will be coming from the Romney Camp at lightening speed.
It's not like Mitt Romney didn't show us all with how quickly and decisively he put Rush Limbaugh in his place after he spent three solid days verbally attacking a woman who was testifying about how a friend had lost her access to a doctor prescribed medicine she needed to prevent the growth of an tennis ball sized ovarian cyst.
That's not the language I would have used...
Go, Mitt, GO! You tell 'em. Nobody puts a woman down on Romney's watch.
So, just as Ann Romney has openly shown her support of a Woman's Right to Choose her life's direction, her dutiful husband Mitt who always listens to her council on these matters will be soon supporting her and Moms everywhere with a full list of policy statements and positions which will unequivocally protect and guarantee the Freedom to Exercise those rights, particularly when they involve choosing to work vs choosing to stay home and raised children, choosing their medical and reproductive care, or choosing exactly who they might want as their life-partner regardless of gender or orientation.
All of these are Freedoms, all of these are Choices. If you have no Choice, you have No FREEDOM.
I'm sure we'll be hearing all of these things from the Romney Campaign, since we're now all on the same page, - yep - any second now.
Any second.
Just wait for it...
Wait...
wait...
