Why do Republicans keep accuse me of envying Mitt Romney? If I'm going to envy some guy with millions of dollars I'd envy Mick Jagger... and not because he's wealthy.
Conservative Republicans remind me of those vacuous cheerleaders in high school with the arrogant idea that dorky students hate them for being beautiful. Many of those same cheerleaders grow up and marry Republicans men simply because they're wealthy. And I guess I'm supposed to envy those Republican tycoons for marrying a trophy wife, in addition to allegedly coveting their wealth.
It may be hard for wealthy conservatives to fathom, but many of us regular dorky people don't harbor an unfulfilled desire to be a wealthy Republican with a hot looking babe for a wife.
Most of us "little people" hate conservative Republicans simply because they're wealthy, rather we hate their arrogant assumptions about what we aspire to be in life. It has nothing to do with our lust for their wealth. Call me a Jesus freak but I wouldn't trade my hunger pangs for the sake of justice in exchange for all of the wealth of the temple money-changers.
"Being wealthy" finishes dead last on my list of Things to Envy Other People For. I envy people for their intellectual gifts, their musical talent, their even-keeled temperament, their charismatic personality, their sense of humor or their gift for telling a good story. Unfortunately Mitt possess none of those attributes and his money making talent is pretty dull stuff by comparison.
Trust me, I have no desire to be a retired CEO of private equity investment firm with fierce presidential ambitions...even with the seven houses, the beautiful wife, the four cars in an elevator garage and the secret unnumbered banks accounts in Zurich, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. I'd be dead in within from the stress of meeting the demands of his opulent lifestyle.
I don't envy Mitt for his millions, but I still believe he should pay a fair tax rate on all that money he has a talent for earning. Conservatives make the frequent error of mistaking a sense of fair play for class envy. Maybe this post will set them straight.
