I am discouraged beyond words! All this website seems to think is important enough to devote its space to is to help Mitt Romney get elected! Why repeat his memes? Why help embed them in people's minds? Does the democratic party not have ANYTHING positive to tell us? The way to assure that the president will not be re-elected is to convince people that he has nothing to offer but negative things about his much weaker opponent. What we need is a program for the future. It has to deal with the very real and threatening problems we face as a nation among other nations on a very quickly shrinking planet. It has to deal with the systems properties of our modern world. It has to anticipate that the time we have lost during the Obama administration simply extends the time we lost during Bush and before. If you loyalists are now ready to look elsewhere so be it. Anyone who is interested in what I have to say please read on.
Here is a short list of what the coming election should be about
Climate change
Agriculture and the creation of sustainable ways of producing food.
How we will deal with water shortage.
Energy conservation on a scale we have not even begun to consider.
Depletion of resources.
An economy based on lasting, durable, repairable essentials and nothing more.
Jobs that are consistent with these values, that pay a living wage and keep our society's infrastructure serving us with proper upkeep and limited catering to the needs of the 1%.
Reorganization of production and food supply so that as much is done locally as possible.
Reorganization of work. Make commuting a last resort. Make raising a family a part of what work is all about rather than having work be a competition for people's time and loyalty.
Single payer health care. For once Justice Scalia was correct. Had we done it right the Court would not be faced with this mess we created.
A realistic look at the proper place for religion in the society. Political involvement disqualifies the right to "religious freedom".
The linking of the need to realistically control population growth. the need for planned parenthood, the effort to make abortion a last resort and/or a medical necessity, not an escape hatch for irresponsible behavior. The willingness to label religious interference with public policy political rather than religious action.
That's my short list. I don't expect to see it addressed here. It is too too important to bash Romney. What a waste!
