"So how did we end up in this state? How did America become a nation that could not rise to the biggest economic challenge in three generations, a nation in which scorched-earth politics and politicized economics created policy paralysis?"
Paul Krugman, well known liberal economist asks us, as citizens, to examine these and other questions. Follow me just below the
squiggledoodlethingey fold, and let's see what we can handle.
Dr. Krugman, a man whose work I have long admired, often disagreed with, sometimes found lacking, and whose work I usually consider slanted beyond necessity is, nonetheless, one of the most brilliant economists of our time. He has "That" Prize to prove it.
In his most recent article for Salon, Paul Krugman gives us a primer in the current state of our economy, and gives us some steps to take towards making our economy, and our country bette, safer, and more enduring as a democracy.
As a citizen, I find these compelling reasons to read the article, and formulate some "take aways" for my time and work. Should that, in fact happen, I will post them as an ongoing part of THIS diary. I hope you will, too. Come, let us reason together. Shall we?
The homework begins here. Yes, it is a bit long, but I didn't happen to find myself getting lost in the process. In fact, I was enlightened. I think you will be too, which is why I do recommend it to every citizen to read, think about, and discuss.
Good reading, thinking, and hunting.
I do look forward to growing, learning, and sharing with you here.
If we could keep the praise and/or angst regarding Krugman out of the discussion, that would be most welcome. I'd like to concentrate on the issues presented, the explanations given, and the prescriptions determined, if that is alright. I think it will make for a much more informative and meaningful discussion.
