Give me the keys, Hollywood and Government.
You aren't allowed to drive our imaginations anymore.
I'm tired of your visions of faster than light magic. I don't need psychic powers in every vision of the future. I am damned sick of random alien monsters that are dead set on using humans for nefarious purpose. And I'm SICK of your near-future always being about what goes wrong.
Give us the future back.
(Ranting on the flip.)
The government destroyed the shuttle, but has plenty of money to sink down the rat-hole of endless wars. That's great.
What happened to space flight being possible? Oh right, you turned it into a sport for the ultra-rich. Why bother having the future be a goal for everyone, when you can make a few million dollars sending ONE guy into space, because he wants it bad enough that he'll fork over the dough?
What happened to collective dreams becoming reality? Oh right, we got American Idol, and it's endless sequels. Everybody's out for themselves, and trying to be good is the fastest way to LOSE.
Why do the conservatives seem to be the only ones who give a shit about this? Why is it that when I try to find a group that wants space flight and space exploration back, I find Ron Paul tripe and Rethug propaganda? Is it so hard to believe that somebody can love the earth, and his fellow man, but still want to grab hold of the stars with both hands? Maybe there are progressives who dream of exploration, but they seem to be buried beneath the tirades of the "Earth First, We'll Conquer Other Planets Later" assholes.
I want the Ballet of Kubrick. I want the dreams of Heinlein. I want the hope of Clarke. I want a future where we are not afraid.
I want the space program back. I want my hopeful movies back. And most of all, I want the dreamers to drive again. As far as I'm concerned, the focus groups have had the wheel long enough, and they not only put the car into the ditch, they figured the fastest way to get it out was to wait until the car fossilized, then dig it out perfectly preserved.
