      As denoted by the New York Post story "NBC Miami Reporter Fired Over Misleading --"   it states the following;

MIAMI -- A reporter at NBC's WTVJ was fired after a 911 call made by Trayvon Martin's killer, George Zimmerman, was edited in a way that made his comments appear racist, similar to the misleading clip shown on NBC's flagship "Today" show.

        While that is a news story in itself, the Huffington Post has a more interesting article, because it is written by a HuffPo editor (Janie Campell) who (according to HuffPo) worked with the dismissed Jeff Burnside at NBC Miami station WTVJ. Janie Campell is noted as having left the station several months prior to the Trayvon Martin case. In HuffPo's "Jeff Burnside--" story - it states that Mr. Burnside is quoted as saying;

“As anybody in the news business knows, something that seems very clear is often very, very complicated,” Burnside told Mediawire when reached by phone on Wednesday.
Now, I am going on the record that I believe that Mr. Burnside is being scapegoated and there is much more to this side of the Trayvon Martin debacle - than it would "appear" to be. 1st off, the "edit" in question is NOT about the much debated "f---- [c]----" George Zimmerman remark. The "edit" is about streaming parts of the 911 call together, to fit a time frame and the "leaving" out of what many deem as germane info in between. While the issue is relevant - it was not as misleading an issue as the hooplah would infer. Mr. Burnside is a scapegoat.

For greater details on the Zimmerman case - we have Mother Jones below the fold.

Mother Jones Post Online - Vast Evidentiary Details

When looking for "fact" specific details, often the main stream media (MSM) fails us. I do concur that NBC made an error in their edit rush to get the story out. But it is NOT like they forged an issue. They made that proverbial faux pas of taking two partial points to add up an (inference) that was likely to be misconstrued (like "Judas hung himself" being directly spliced to the verse "Jesus says you go and do likewise").

However, Fox, Romney and Boehner do far worse than this ever day. We can't haul Fox into court, stop Mitt the pitts from his GOP run (despite the fact he did NOT win Iowa, Maine, Michagin etc) OR - impeach John Boehner (though many of us want to do more than that with him). No, we are stuck with there "perversions" of the facts and far fetched "splicings" - intolerable as they are.

MoJo Provides Real Documentation

Fortunately, we do have those who effort at the truth in an unbiased manner, regardless of their purported point of view. Mother Jones (MoJo) has blessed us with posting a plethora of documents and links apropos this the Trayvon Martin/ George Zimmerman saga - and we will give you some very noteworthy parts.

See some links here --

Links to Pictures of Crime Scene and a MoJo Video

Previously, our fellow Kossack "edg" provided us with the Diary "Trayvon Martin Crime Scene Photo". It is a necessary background piece - because it gives a detailed photo of the actual police tape position of where Trayvon Martin purportedly fell after the shooting (bare in mind subsequent police reports state CPR was administered and at least a "roll over" of Trayvon had to occur).

       This photo is from edg's Diary;

       Also we have many background photos etc - from "Marinade Dave's" website (Marinade Dave has provided detailed local photos at ground eye level - his 1/2 dozen stories upon his websiteare worth exploring - if you want more change of ascertaining "All" the facts);

      MoJo has a constant update on their website. It is noteworthy too, that MoJo has a story denoting the fact that Zimmerman's prosecution can fail. You can find many details interesting at MoJo's story "The Trayvon Martin Killing, Explained". Also - MoJo directs us links (here) - of vast documents, transripts etc. One good link in line with the background above - is to the "Grio" website. MoJo denotes that Grio's managing editor (and also MSNBC story contributor) Joy-Ann Reid's video analysis of the Trayvon travesty. Sorry that the video won't embed. I 've looked for it on YouTube etc. Thus, you have to click on the link at her "Reid Report" here;

Transcript of George Zimmerman 911 Tape

What is as interesting, if not more so, is the fact that MoJo has many documents you can download, including a copy (purportedly) of the Transcript of the George Zimmerman now infamous 911 call. GZ does say the "a--holes" always get away and the "f---- [c]----" is denoted as to be unidentifiable. As for me, I believe we are being snowed everywhere they wish.

Unless you have a copy, direct from the original recording and "trust" all the handlers in between; it is highly unlikely we will ever know what was really said. I played the original taping to myself hundreds of times. Each and every time I tried to splice into my mind that Zimmerman was saying "[c]old" or "[k]ooks" etc. Over and over again.

Now, the most "recent" versions that I listened to on the Young Turks sounds like he said "F---- [c]ove". There's a CNN enhanced version that denotes Zimmerman is saying "[c]old". Then CNN also contradicts itself - saying it is the word "Punks"

Arguments over what George Zimmerman said

Transcript of Zimmerman's 911 call

Regardless of what anyone wishes to believe; it is my opinion/ contention - that if a black Trayvon had shot a (what ever color/ race) Zimmerman - an arrest would have been swift. If you believe that contention has possibility - then you believe that racism potentially still exists.

         This is the key part of the Transcript (here);

Zimmerman: Somethings wrong with him. Yup, he's coming to check me out, he's got something in his hands, I don't know what his deal is.

Dispatcher: Just let me know if he does anything ok

Zimmerman: How long until you get an officer over here?

Dispatcher: Yeah we've got someone on the way, just let me know if this guy does anything else.

Zimmerman: Okay. These assholes they always get away. When you come to the clubhouse you come straight in and make a left. Actually you would go past the clubhouse.

Dispatcher: So it's on the lefthand side from the clubhouse?

Zimmerman: No you go in straight through the entrance and then you make a left…uh you go straight in, don't turn, and make a left. Shit he's running.

Dispatcher: He's running? Which way is he running?

Zimmerman: Down towards the other entrance to the neighborhood.

Dispatcher: Which entrance is that that he's heading towards?

Zimmerman: The back entrance…fucking [unintelligible]

Dispatcher: Are you following him?

Zimmerman: Yeah

Dispatcher: Ok, we don't need you to do that.

Zimmerman: Ok

There are several items that have been missed by the banter and hyperbole propogated in the media. Zimmerman claims to be "trained" and a "Captain" of the Neighborhood watch. How did that moniker come to be. If it was self appointed, it does go "evidentiary" to mind set.

Also, if you look at that part of the transcript in the context that I've spliced it in (middle of the 911 call) - there are several interesting issues. One key item that the main stream has not reported, is the fact that GZ was questioned "Are you following him?" and he said "Yeah". Then he was told "OK, we don't need you to do that."

To which Zimmerman replied/ acknowledged  "OK".

Just as Zim's defense and those fighting for "Watching" the neighborhood or right to kill/ Stand Your Ground enthusiasts may argue that the 911 call demonstrates that George Zimmerman was playing by the book. I, or any half decent prosecutor can take the above transcript - if true - to denote the following facts of evidence.

George Zimmerman asked how long until you get an officer over here.

He was told "we've got someone on the way"

George Zimmeran then says "these assholes always get away"
(NOTE: Zim has made a conclusion ALREADY the John Doe is an asshole)

Now, it takes 10 to 20 seconds for GZ's directions - BEFORE Zim says

          "Shit he's running"

Until we see the actual officer's notes on the initial intakes of statement, (which we may Never see) - there are several reports by Zim's father, brother, etc - that Trayvon came up to Zim at his truck. I will go check all the MoJo documents to see if there's any direct note quotes.

However, there are witnesses that the fight was never "on the concrete" as Zim claims. There are many "enhanced" photos trying to show "massive" wounds to George Zimmerman's head. But he was not needed to go to the hospital at the time (or get stitches) and we have multiple experts stating that the cry for help is not possible to be George Zimmerman.

What we do have is the fact that Trayvon's mother heard the tapes and that when they were played, the Sanford Mayor broke into tears as Trayvon's mother broke down crying according to this Reuter's story that said Sybrina:

"When we got to the cries for help, that was when Sybrina burst into tears," recalled Jackson. "She said, 'That's Trayvon. That's our son.' She ran out of the room crying."
It is just as plausible that Zimmerman caught Trayvon off guard, that Zimmerman went after the "asshole" that was trying to get away. That when Zimmerman went to pull his gun - Trayvon freaked and did cry for help and went to hit, punch - whatever - the stalking George Zimmerman. There are many possible scenarios and even a court of alaw can only surmise to a "reasonable doubt" level or not - what transpired.

Journalist Jeff Burnside's goose may be cooked and is most likely scapegoated (Note to Jeff - Laser has a story that can give you clout). But, of all the issues scorned and the many not addressed, like the fact that the Sanford Mayor has been far better than most elected officials in handling this affair. There is one thing that is absolutely certain and I, if I were the prosecutor would conclude with this very fact.

When Zimmerman was told "we don't need you to do that" (follow Trayvon) and George replied with an affirmative "OK". He should have Stopped right then and there. Had GZ complied with his acknowledge

                                            Trayvon would not be dead!

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

theory is  (and I ask you to be UNbiased and look at the evidence of the tape above - with the following)

not only possible is this theory
                - but a chance to be the prosecution's theory too.

Zim is 28 years old - out of shape - did security work, trained at a Sheriff's class and made himself the Self Appointed Captain of the Neighborhood watch.

He has called 9-1-1 several times, about trash, a dog, other "suspicious" persons.

He (purportedly) had a run in with a loose dog and got some of his own mean team.

He has a history of altercations

His father is a "judicial officer" (oy vey)

Now the infamous call - with the gun pack'n Zim

"How long until an officer --"

"These assholes always get away --"

                "Shit he's running --"

                "The back entrance .... F---- "&^*%'"

                Are you following him "Yeah"

we don't need you to do that "OK"

then, he disconnects the phone at 7:13:41

and confronts the John Doe at approx between 7:15 to 7:16

where Trayvon says "Why are you following me"

and Zim is heard to reply "What are you doing here"

Trayvon's phone cuts out at 7:16 approx as the 1st of seven 9-1-1 calls begins at 7:16:11 - where a High pitched scream for help can be heard.

                7:16:56 a Gunshot is heard.

My contention will take a psycological exam expert
they would have to supply theirs in response.

Zim had a passion to be a cop - was getting up there in years - out of shape - a history of lack of control

add to that a gun and the fact he KNEW a cop was en route

He wanted to be the HERO arresting the "asshole" that could (at a minimum) down brewski's and boast about the "ONE" (asshole) that did not get away.

As for what happened in the 1/2 and 1 & 1/2 at the most minutes between the two - is what the trial is about (IF the timeline is valid.

Zim obviously came up on Trayvon (had to get in Front of the Hoody guy) and/ or Trayvon turned and saw the guy following him  - when the verbal exchange transpired.

That is when the scuffle broke out (WHY)

Trayvon's phone drops at that moment in time

The "edit" is about streaming parts of the 911 call together, to fit a time frame and the "leaving" out of what many deem as germane info in between. While the issue is relevant - it was not as misleading an issue as the hooplah would infer. Mr. Burnside is a scapegoat.
    From the article:
The tape shown on the "Today" show on March 27 was edited so it appeared Zimmerman said, "This guy looks like he's up to no good ... He looks black." In the actual call, Zimmerman's description of Martin's race was in reply to a later question from the dispatcher who asked, "OK, and this guy -- is he black, white or Hispanic?"
Seriously, you don't find that "as misleading as the hooplah would infer"?  Come on, this is James O'Keefe style editing. There is no place for this in legitimate journalism.

that he did stop following Martin after "OK", that he was just trying to get the address and get back to hs truck, when Martin confronted him. I think his biggest problem with that is that the body was found on the path that leads to Martin's house, not to Zimmeran's truck. His defense is going to have to explain why he was on that path instead of the one that leads to where his truck was parked.

    •  He would just say that he was headed back (3+ / 0-)

after following him almost to the house.

Remember the defense doesn't have to be coherent since it is raising reasonable doubt.

Also, that he ignored the dispatcher doesn't go to any legal aspect of the case but it could go to state of mind and credibility.

Z's basic problem is credibility.   His claim is that he was innocently walking back to his truck when he was attacked, but the 911 tapes show that he was the one in the aroused state, ready for battle.    He was going after a "dangerous criminal" who was likely to be armed.   Trayvon had no idea what in hell was happening.   The idea that a 17-year-old kid would violently attack a possibly armed stranger who could be law enforcement or the leader of a lynch mob is pretty far fetched.

His problem is convincing the jury that a 17-year-old kid with no criminal record and no known propensity for physical violence is not only reasonably likely to be the attacker, but also reasonably likely to have prevailed in the attack to the extent that Z was in reasonable fear of his life -- and that Z had no alternative other than to shoot.   If it is true that Z is an ex-bouncer who was fired for being too violent, that strains credibility.

Z had a motive for attacking, Trayvon did not.   Z had experience in street fights, Trayvon did not (I'm sure we would have heard about it otherwise.)   Z was armed, Trayvon wasn't.   It is really difficult to believe that a kid alone in a strange neighborhood (yet near a house he was staying at) would attack a stranger who was following him -- without knowing if that stranger had friends nearby, was armed, or represented the police.   He could go inside and be safe or he could initiate a confrontation with a lot of unknowns.   Think what you like about black kids, but that just doesn't make street sense.   It doesn't happen.

      We shall see.

I'd be curious to get your take on the gap in time between when Zimmerman reported that Trayvon was running and lost sight of him and the confrontation. There are about three minutes there, and the location of those two events is essentially the same. If Trayvon "could go inside and be safe" why didn't he? Why did he essentially either double back towards Zimmerman or run, then stand in place for three minutes, in the dark, in the rain.

        •  Interesting "stretch of time" question. You read (0+ / 0-)

          my D on the 24th ( -- Zimmerman is Guilty --)

If the timeline provided in that Diary from Marinade Dave is correct, then Zim  did exit his truck at around 7:11:48 and continued to speak to "Dispatch" until the call ended at 7:13:41

Between 7:15 and 7:16 - apparently Trayvon's girlfriends phone call denotes Trayvon thought he lost "the guy" following him.

at 7:16 (approx) Trayvon's girlfriend hears' Trayvon say
          "why are you following me"
          and Zimmerman say
          "What are you doing here"

that is when the phone dropped - around 7:16:10 (allowing the 15 to 25 seconds for banter and thud of phone)

at 7:16:11 the purported 1st of seven 9-1-1 calls come's in and a high pitched scream for help is heard

at 7:16:56 a gun shot is heard.

there are thousands of possible scenarios on the gaps in time. But the only one that matters is Zim stepping out of his truck with a (purported) concealed weapon and the fact that at 7:16 (approx) Zimmerman and Trayvon had an exchange of words.

the vast time of scuffle that Zim purportedly - originally stated - is dismissed (according to the above timeline).

There's also a purported eye witness who saw the confontation and called 9-1-1 only to hear the gun shot when he was talking to police.

all the witness statements have to be compared on a white board basis - to see if there is corroboration.

I think we can agree that Trayvon ran away from Zimmerman at approximately 7:12 p.m. (if not then, we can get into the details of that). I think we can also agree that sometime after 7:16 p.m., there was a confrontation and exchange of words that was followed within a few seconds by a physical altercation and a gun shot.

That leaves a four minute gap in between the time that Trayvon ran away from Zimmerman and the time of their subsequent confrontation. The previous commenter indicated that he saw no reason why Martin wouldn't have chosen to go home and be safe instead of initiate a violent confrontation with a strange man. Makes sense, but then for some reason, he chose not to immediately go home.

I think there are potential reasons for that that still incriminate Zimmerman as the aggressor: Martin may have thought that he could hide behind the houses until Zimmerman left. He may have not wanted to let Zimmerman know where he lived. He may have been surprised that Zimmerman followed him there.

But I was curious to get the reaction of the commenter to those issues.

            •  I concur with your paragraph before your ending (0+ / 0-)

It is also possible, that Trayvon said he had enough, when his girl told him to run and said to himself  "F-- that I'm not running from this guy"

In 3 minutes, Trayvon could have run 1/2 a mile
but there was no testimony by his girlfriend - that Trayvon sprinted (only inference that he picked up the pace).

From where Zim's truck was parked to where the killing transpired - even my old age - way out of shape butt - could have tippy toed that far in 4 minutes.

So I think - the time line needs much more research - to come to a conclusion there are 4 minute lapses

More like 2 at most and even that is a quarter mile on a dead run.

be important when this goes to trial; but for me, the key and undisputable fact is that Zimmerman got out of his truck with a loaded firearm to pursue a black youth who had done nothing wrong.  Everything that happened after that is on Zimmerman, regardless of who confronted whom or the minute-by-minute analysis.

Legally, it may be more complicated; but for me, it's that simple.  Zimmerman must go to jail.

        •  missing time = sadly, Trayvon answered his phone (1+ / 0-)
          Recommended by:

at almost the exact time he reached the backside of the townhouse, and thus was out of sight of Zimmerman's vehicle.  Trayvon likely never looked back to see if GZ got out of his car or not.

Once off the road and out of sight, he stopped running almost exactly where he was shot - in the lee of the building where he thought he would be safe.  He spent the next two minutes talking to his girl, possibly on a patio out of the rain.

If he took stock of his options, he had three.  Continue east and end up again a pedestrian facing a car, double back and be sighted again, or go south and maybe be cut off by the swifter driver who could drive ahead, exit and waylay him in the dark.

Or, he could exercise his other option:  wait until the person grew bored and left the area.  It was highly unlikely that a person in a car would get out and stalk him for buying skittles and walking home.  Hence, the words he used when the two spotted one another:  WHY are you following me?

so TWO NBC people have just been  fired for TWO separate
incidents of this "inexplicable mistake" on two separate broadcasts.

And what happened was that NBC took the following exchange:
Zimmerman:“This guy looks like he’s up to no good. Or he’s on drugs or something. It’s raining and he’s just walking around, looking about.”
Dispatcher:  “O.K., and this guy — is he white, black or Hispanic?”
    Zimmerman:  “He looks black.”

    and changed it to this:

Zimmerman: “This guy looks like he’s up to no good. He looks black.”

Of course, that massive dust cloud thrown up by laserhaas kinda obscures this point.

    •  Hey massive dust cloud snider. Your line is just (0+ / 0-)

as bogus as the one you claim the NBC vid does (or did) it is no longer viewable.

But I watched it 20 times.

      we can type

"guy looks like he's up to no good. --- "he looks black".

and that makes the legitimate point.

In video and time space - it was an error in judgment to not put in

"and Zimmerman responded "he looks black".

Only Jeff can testify to his mindset and I think he already demonstrated a gentlemen's wish to just accept his fate when he said ---

“As anybody in the news business knows, something that seems very clear is often very, very complicated,”
It is a rush to judgment on intent on the mindset of Jeff (if Jeff was indeed the final reporter/ editor)

and there will Never be a court on this remark (most likely).

      •  "sh*t he's running" can be explained thusly: (0+ / 0-)

I'm not saying I endorse this explanation, but George had described the youth as "suspicious," to the operator.   He was loitering, sorta, a "suspicious act" and then when he walked away he was engaging in a normal activity, walking.  Zimmerman was upset that the cops had not arrived yet, since Trayvon had stopped doing the "suspicious" activity.

It's one thing to call the police on a suspicious loitering teen and another to call them for someone who is walking home.

His "shit, he's running" comment was in part an expression of disappointment that he'd lost his excuse to have the cops confront Trayvon.

Of course, his actions subsequent to this "disappointment" are of another kind.
