I've got my June 5th Primary voting guide, and I was giddy with excitement to see that Orly Taitz is on the ballot! Since it's an open primary, I'd thought I'd weight the pros and cons of casting my vote for the craziest would-be politico my state has produced in a generation. Here's a choice quote from her candidate statement:
"You deserve the truth, respect, and answers: why Barack Obama is using a Connecticut Social Security number, which was never assigned to him according to E-verify, why his alleged copy a a birth certificate is deemed to be a computer generated[sic] forgery, why his school records show him as an Indonesian citizen and many others."
(Italics and grammar in the original preserved)
Pros:
1) DiFi vs. Orly would be hysterical if she garnered more votes than Emken! Watching the CA GOP throw its floundering lot behind her would finally break them. Think of the children: it would teach them that not all political parties are serious.
2) It would probably drive down turnout even more for the GOP in this solid-blue state. There are a few down-ballot races I wouldn't mind seeing flip to the Dems, especially in the state house and assembly.
3) The farce of the open primary would be exposed, and I'm sure we'd quickly revert back to closed primaries--or not, and the fun can go on for a few more election cycles!
Cons:
1) Any candidate, despite the odds, can wind up winning by luck or scandal. Look at Darryl Issa, who has no right representing CA-49 (come on Oceanside, wake up!), or Tom McClintock in CA-4 (who carpet-bagged Charlie Brown in 08).
2) The last thing we need is for the birthers to have even more media attention, and this would give them an open mic for several months.
Are you a California voter? If so, how do you intend to squander your open-primary vote? Take the poll! (I put the candidates in order of appearance in the voter guide.)
Is Feinland hoping to garner a few votes with voters who might confuse her name with Feinstein's? Is Lauten going to suck it up and accept that he's not the R's sacrificial pig? Share your thoughts in the comments!
