One of the things I find most irritating about Daily Kos and other such sites is the hyperbolic and misleading headlines. This isn’t one of those.
What I’m talking about here is the conservatives’ insistence, in response to Obamacare’s mandate that all employers offer contraceptive coverage in their health insurance plan, that an employer should not have to provide to their employees any benefit that conflicts with that employer’s personal religious beliefs. Apparently to conservatives, a worker having to conform to their employer’s beliefs somehow represents “religious freedom.”
With their Christocentric blinders on, they obviously haven’t thought through all the ramifications of this policy – specifically, if my employer is a Muslim, he could legally refuse to offer me any benefits that conflict with Sharia Law. And in fact, since most modern Muslim scholars agree that participating in commercial insurance schemes is not allowed under Sharia Law, your employer can simply refuse to provide any health insurance at all.
Thank you conservatives, for insisting that Sharia Law should be the law of the land.
