And this new national survey also finds that: 75% of Americans support “regulating carbon dioxide," too.
Who knew?
You could easily think, public sentiment was exactly the opposite, the way that "climate change" has fallen off the face of the news lately ...
Poll: 75 Percent of Americans Support Regulating CO2 As A Pollutant, 60 Percent Support Revenue-Neutral Carbon Tax
by Joe Romm, Climate Progress, thinkprogress.org -- Apr 26, 2012
A new national survey confirms strong public support for funding renewable energy research, regulating carbon pollution, and signing a global treaty to slash emissions. The study, conducted by the Yale Project on Climate Change Communication and the George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication, found a remarkable 75% of Americans support “regulating carbon dioxide (the primary greenhouse gas) as a pollutant.”
The survey’s results are counter to widely held assumptions among the media and politicians, but consistent with recent polling. The poll found:
* 63 percent of Americans support “signing an international treaty that requires the United States to cut its emissions of carbon dioxide 90 percent by the year 2050“!
[...]
* 61 percent said they support holding the fossil fuel industry responsible for “hidden costs we pay for citizens who get sick from polluted air and water, military costs to maintain access to foreign oil, and the environmental costs of spills and accidents.”
* By 3 to 1 -- 58 percent to 17 percent -- Americans say “protecting the environment … improves economic growth and provides new jobs” vs those who say it “reduces economic growth and costs jobs.”
[...]
Wow 61% of support Americans support "holding the fossil fuel industry responsible for hidden costs …"
SOOO, reducing our public-give-aways known as Oil Subsidies should be a no-brainer, right?
Well, that assumes those critters in Congress haven't already sold theirs to the highest bidders ...
No rather, the Tinmen in Congress would rather paint Clean Energy Subsidies as the villain
-- and NOT the "fossil fuel industry" that the American public has been squarely tracking on our pocketbook radars ...
Solar & Wind Energy Subsidies Should Continue “Forever”
by Zachary Shahan, Clean Technica -- April 29, 2012
It seems that every day I’m reading (or even writing) about solar and wind energy’s prices and potential without government subsidies -- but it is really ridiculous that dropping government subsidies should even be on the table.
Amongst the political right (especially politicians and media), there’s a common argument that renewable energy shouldn’t be subsidized, even though the majority of the public supports such subsidies, and even though fossil fuels have been getting subsidies for about a century (and continue to get them).
[...]
Unfortunately, renewable energy subsidies are unfairly demonized by some people (i.e. FOX News and Tea Party politicians), and they are at more risk of being cut than fossil fuel subsidies… year after year. As such, I understand the strong desire many people have for clean energy options to beat dirty energy even with the referees bought and the scales heavily unbalanced in dirty energy’s favor. However, I don’t think we should condone the idea that renewable energy subsidies should one day end -- we should make it dead clear that renewable energy subsidies serve the specific purpose of correcting a huge market failure.
Well no wonder Clean Energy Subsidies "are bad" --
are seen as "socialism"
-- because "FOX News and Tea Party" says they are ...
and who in Congress dares stand against those bottomless founts of wisdom?
Afterall what Fox so-called News says, GOES -- No fact checking or poll-checking required!
(except for maybe at election time, eh ... Polls painting Oil Companies as the "bad guys" should matter then, shouldn't they?)
When will Congress get the message -- that they need to Stop Subsidizing Big Oil ?
Any thinking person can see that -- Big Oil really doesn't need the extra help!
