As early voting comes to a close and May 8 draws near, the effort to get out the NO vote on North Carolina's Amendment One has intensified. My brother and his friends have worked to attract young (well, mostly young) voters through music, producing a rock version of Laurelyn Dossett's song "Vote Against Amendment One"
Thankfully, the project has come to the attention of Rolling Stone: on their politics page, they've embedded the video endorsements of local and national punk legends like Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü and solo artist), Ian MacKaye (Fugazi) and Laura Ballance (Superchunk).
It would be nice if the vote no effort were noticed by mainstream networks in these last few days--you never know who hasn't been paying attention and still has time to vote, and even register same day if necessary!
I'm not currently in my home state of North Carolina, so there's nothing I can do on the ground in terms of getting out the NO vote. I'm encouraged that the vast majority of my friends residing in North Carolina have either already voted no (on FB, many of them noted long waiting lines to vote) or will do so in the next couple of days.
If YOU can do something, though, please act! Scott Wooledge always has a handy list of ways you can contribute.
