Gallup has the Presidential race tied between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama today. I don't get it. How can this be? What are voters thinking? The George Bush approval rating was in the low to mid 20's when he left office. And rightly so as his disastrous policies left the country entering a second Great Depression as he walked out the door. Mitt promises to pick up where George left off -- filling his campaign with ex-Bush advisers. Do voters really want to return to those years? Who are these people who say they want Mitt?
Certainly not seniors on Medicare and Social Security or those nearing retirement. Paul Ryan's voucher Medicare plan (which Mitt endorses) would replace Medicare's guaranteed payments with vouchers guaranteed not to cover all expenses -- this is their purpose -- to reduce government payments "to reign in rising costs".
And certainly not women. Republican efforts all over the country would insert the government between women and their doctors -- mandating misinformation and banning the pill. And taking away Planned Parenthood -- cutting off pre and post natal health care for millions of women because they are "pro life" is crazy stuff. Certainly women have come too far to put up with this?
And certainly not firefighters, police, teachers, or other city or county workers. Republicans want to eliminate their jobs.
And not union workers. Republicans are doing all they can to decertify unions and break union contracts.
And not students or alumni with student debt. Republicans want college to cost more and won't give you a break on your loans. Why is it Democrats had to fight to keep current rates at 3.4% when it costs the government less than 1% to fund these loans? And certainly not the poor souls who had to drop out of college after taking on loan debt. They have the burden of the loans without college level jobs.
And certainly not those of Hispanic heritage when they see Republicans' fear of becoming a minority due to your immigration. You are their enemy. Can't Asians see that they are part of Republicans' "immigration problem" too?
And not the poor. Republicans are constantly looking for ways to stick it to you.
Who's left? Middle-aged white men with private sector non union jobs? Is it not obvious to them that Republicans are playing a zero-sum game? In the past 30 years or so, nearly all incomes gains have gone to their 1%er sponsors, leaving nothing for the rest of us.
On the other hand, we have Obama. He's actually winning "The Global War On Terror". Republicans were all for spending billions fighting two unpaid for wars to stalemates, ballooning our debt, but not that interested in finding, capturing or killing Osama bin Laden. Obama killed bin Laden and is ending those wars.
Obama has prevented a second Great Depression -- not with the help of Republicans, but despite their opposition. Doesn't it bother voters that Republicans have vowed to do all they can to ensure Obama is a single term President? Not by being better, by showing him up with their brilliance, but by being obstinate children throwing tantrums -- fighting every proposal, every bill -- even if it destroys the economy and our jobs. Do voters not remember how many Republicans thought it would have been better to let the US default on its debt? It seems that the biggest threat this country faces is not al-Qaida. It's the Republican Party. So tell me, why is Mitt Romney not polling under 20 percent?
