That's not how they're framing it, of course.  The meme is that "Obama knew about OBL's whereabouts since LAST SUMMER and REFUSED TO ACT until MAY!!!"

All across the Internet tubes today, Conservatives are chuckling and clucking over the shocking news that President Obama knew where Osama bin Laden was SINCE THE SUMMER OF 2010 and WAITED until MAY 2011 to DO anything about it.

Who told them this shocking bit of information?  Retired Army Vice Chief of Staff Jack Keane.  He was a special guest on the Huckabee Show yesterday on Fox News.

And the startling news this retired General revealed?  Get ready to void your bowels in utter horror.  After the jump.

Obama Knew OBL’s Hideout Since Summer of 2010 – Refused to Act

Retired General Jack Keane Tells Huckabee that Barack Obama Knew About Bin Laden’s Hideout in Abbottabad Since Summer of 2010 … Did not Act Until May 2011

…and various other versions of the same headline.  In fact, do a search on “the Google” with these words.

obama keane huckabee osama

You will get about 1,390,000 hits.

Now, do the same search under Google News.

Three stories.  Three.  Two from conservative meat heads at  One from meat head Jim Hoft at “Human Events”.

Why so many blog hits and so few “news” hits?

Because it isn’t news.

Not any more.  Brian Williams spilled the beans in his Rock Center report from the White House Situation Room last week.

Amazing what one misses when one’s head is firmly jammed up the ass of Fox News.

When you take a moment to read anything written by the above-mentioned morons, you get the feeling that President Obama wants you to think he learned about OBL’s location on April 30, 2011 and sent in the SEALS on May 1.

Now, that might be what Bush would have done.  If he had done anything.  He probably would not have.  We have Romney’s word that he would not have gone into Pakistan to get bin Laden.  But these conservative idiots actually believe that Obama was sitting on his thumbs, I believe one word used frequently is “dithering“, since learning of OBL’s whereabouts in the summer of 2010.

It doesn’t occur to any of these conservative idiots to ask how long it would take to plan such a mission, to gather the intelligence to have at least a glimmer of certainty that this was actually OBL, not just some tall, well-protected Pakistani.  Nobody seems to wonder or even ask themselves how they would go about assembling a strike force, training that strike force, getting the satellite, ground, and human intelligence needed to undertake such a dangerous mission, how to get the team in undetected, get the body of OBL out (if it actually WAS Osama, and there was, at best, a 60% chance of that being true), get the troops out safely, identify the body and bury it at sea.

Nobody seems to have the intellectual curiosity to wonder what’s involved in putting together the assets to pull off such a complicated mission, keep it secret, plan it, practice it, execute it to perfection, and be sure you have actually killed bin Laden.

They knew NOTHING about ANY of this, even though Brian Williams broadcast his excellent Rock Center report a week ago and this retired general told Huck about it last night.

This general who retired in 2003, right about the same time Bush gave up the hunt, this general who would not have been involved in the planning and who probably knows less about what actually happened than the millions of folks who watched Rock Center last week.

Adding to the hilarity, this op-ed written by former Attorney General Mikey Mukasey in the Wall Street Journal last week claiming that the president was all set to blame the military if the mission went wrong.

A recently disclosed memorandum from then-CIA Director Leon Panetta shows that the president’s celebrated derring-do in authorizing the operation included a responsibility-escape clause: “The timing, operational decision making and control are in Admiral McRaven’s hands. The approval is provided on the risk profile presented to the President. Any additional risks are to be brought back to the President for his consideration. The direction is to go in and get bin Laden and if he is not there, to get out.”

Which is to say, if the mission went wrong, the fault would be Adm. McRaven’s, not the president’s. Moreover, the president does not seem to have addressed at all the possibility of seizing material with intelligence value—which may explain his disclosure immediately following the event not only that bin Laden was killed, but also that a valuable trove of intelligence had been seized, including even the location of al Qaeda safe-houses.

Now, this is just me. But do you see anything in this quote that even HINTS that Obama was going to blame the military?  Or do you see a, “let’s make damn sure we know what we’re doing before we do it” admonition.

And what is Mukasey doing with this info, anyway?  Mukasey wasn’t involved in the planning.  How does HE know what Obama was or was not thinking?  And does Mukasey really think the gathering of the “material with intelligence value” was NOT part of the plan in the first place?

Amazing, the depths of stupidity in the Conservative “intelligentsia” these days, say wot?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.
