As I'm sure you've noticed, the NFTT blogathon is on and strong! We have one more month before the big box day happens, so let's rock this out! All the goods below the squiggeldy-doo.
Now, I'ma let this diary finish, but NFTT is one of the funnest events of all NN time! Seriously...even if you show up only to hear they'd already finished in record time, just being around the project is delightful. Sometimes, there are t-shirts to sign. Everyone's just so damn happy, t-shirts to sign or no. Even putting the boxes together is fun; it's like your own private Idaho of Tetris!
So back to the diary, in order to create all this wonderful goodness, we need help from you. But it isn't us or even NFTT you are helping. It's every one of our soldiers who has been too far away from home for too long. Every dollar NFTT gets gives our troops fun and useful stuff to make their lives a little easier. I remember last year's included things like sand scarves, work gloves, snacks, and personal hygiene items, etc. It's an eclectic mix to be sure, but theses boxes are very much appreciated by the recipients.
And it's quite an effort, I can attest. I think it was in Pittsburgh, but there we were, standing around, when Timroff pulled up from having just made a Costco run getting more stuff for the gift boxes. Then there's the whole obtaining of the actual boxes and getting them shipped part. I recall a bit of a crisis there one year, where the amounts were off and they had to find more boxes.
This is yet another reason for the blogathon: funding them up now makes their jobs planning and executing this whole thing that much easier. And very selfishly, it leaves the NFTT peeps more free time to come play at NN! So won't you do them (and ourselves) a favor with a donation?
Netroots For The Troops
Netroots For The Troops® is raising funds to send Care Packages to our soldiers stationed overseas.
We are asking all of you to support our efforts and to also make a contribution for this worthwhile cause.
Over the years, many soldiers have sent letters to express their appreciation for these Care Packages and even posted thanks at Daily Kos
It was in the middle six months of my assignment in Afghanistan that the packages started arriving. I received an array of things from them… letters, candy, toothpaste, floss, baby wipes, razors, food, socks, books, dvd’s. The list could go on and on. It was amazing. Netroots for the Troops was always there... The packages were a reminder that our country knows about our fight. Every day, because of their support, I knew that if it was going to be my last day, I would be remembered and I would be honored.
Please make a donation HERE. Thank you from the entire 2012 NFTT Team.
Netroots For The Troops® is a project of Netroots for the Troops, Inc., a Virginia non-profit corporation. The NFTT diaries are a way for the Daily Kos community to support the troops in Afghanistan. We send them packages of items they might not otherwise receive through the normal military process but that they find useful. This is a non-political diary. While we understand there are differing views on the wars and the warriors, the site gives plenty of opportunity to express those views elsewhere. Furthermore, we would hope that users do not engage with those that attempt to hijack or otherwise disrupt these diaries.
We appreciate your understanding and support. Thanks!
And we appreciate you! Now, some morning music:
