The NYPD is getting out of control and abusing its power. The police are not above the law, but like everyone else they are bound by it and must be held accountable if they violate the law. I definitely believe they have this time.
Another day, another NYPD beating.
19-year-old Bronx teen Jateik Reed became the latest victim of NYPD brutality back in January where a handful of officers ganged up on him, kicking and beating him down to the ground with batons. They claim that they were stopping Reed because he had bags of crack and weed on him and hit an officer while being questioned.
In a report, one officer wrote, "He observed the defendant to have on his person, in his hand, one (1) clear plastic bag containing a white, rock-like substance, which he threw to the ground. In his hand, two (2) clear plastic bags, each containing a dried green leafy substance with a distinctive odor, in public view."
But cell phone video that was captured by Reed's friends and other onlookers tells an entirely different story as the officers are seen beating Reed down with no drugs in sight.
"Even if you don't have 20/20 vision. Even if you have some substantial clarity, you can see quite clear there was nothing, there were no bags in Jateik Reed's hands," says Reed's attorney, Michael Warren to NY1.

Now new video has emerged, which further proves that Jateik’s abuse at the hands of the NYPD was real, unnecessary, unfounded and based on lies.
But now that the new video proves that theory wrong, Reed's attorney wants the Bronx DA to charge the officers with assault and filing a false report.
