UAW President Bob King: Mitt Romney deserves no credit for auto industry recovery
by Michael Wayland, MLive.com -- May 08, 2012
DETROIT, MI -- United Auto Workers President Bob King is once again condemning Mitt Romney for taking credit for the recovery of the U.S. automotive industry.
“The industry has added more than 200,000 jobs in the last few years and 2011 was the strongest year of industry job growth since 1994,” King wrote in a statement. “None of this would have happened if Romney had been the one making the decisions.”

In his statement, King points out the editorial in the Times as well as another from Romney in the Detroit News as showing he was “opposed to the auto loans.”

The loans -- which were predicated on painful sacrifices by workers, management and other stakeholders -- enabled the companies to return quickly to profitability and repay the loans years ahead of schedule.

The successful recovery of the American auto industry is a great national success story that most Americans are very proud of. It's an example of how business, labor and the government can work together to find solutions to some of the nation's most difficult problems. Mitt Romney's values of profits-over-people are wrong for Michigan, wrong for workers and wrong for all Americans who value hard work, shared sacrifice and shared prosperity.

[It was a great interview -- full of some choice words for Romney.
I'll post it here, if it becomes available.]
Bob King wanted to tell Mitt that:
Michigan workers aren't stupid -- we remember what you said then, versus what you are unbelievably saying now.
Say What? Mitt Romney Takes “Credit” For Revival of U.S. Auto Industry
by Aaron Task, Daily Ticker, finance.yahoo.com -- May 08, 2012
[... Romney: ]
"I pushed the idea of a managed bankruptcy, and finally when that was done, and help was given, the companies got back on their feet," Romney said during an interview with WEWS-TV in Cleveland, following a campaign stop at an auto parts maker. "So, I'll take a lot of credit for the fact that this industry has come back."
Come again?
Romney did advocate for managed bankruptcy in late 2008, but he also vehemently opposed the government bailouts that most experts agree made it possible. Opposing bailouts on principle is one thing and there is much to gripe about how the government handled the auto industry, most notably its treatment of Chrysler's debt holders. But for Romney to now claim credit for the industry's rebound is a very big stretch -- even for a politician with a reputation for playing both sides of an issue.
"If General Motors, Ford and Chrysler get the bailout that their chief executives asked for yesterday, you can kiss the American automotive industry goodbye," Romney wrote in a NY Times op-ed in November 2008. "It won't go overnight, but its demise will be virtually guaranteed."

What's Mitt Romney going to claim credit for next?
The 4 million+ Jobs added to the economy, since the Bush-Wall Street Recession decimated it?
The Bush Taxes cuts being extended to give the elites even more time to think about hiring people?
Mitt Romney's probably going to claim credit for making offshore tax-havens fashionable again. (well he earned that one.)
Is he going to claim credit for the layoffs of teachers, and police, and fire-fighters all across the Nation?
Yeah that was Mitt's idea too -- yep that's the ticket!
Way to go Willard! Next thing we'll see you claiming to be responsible for,
-- is Busting up the Unions, and replacing them with workers at half the wage ... and overseas if possible.
because afterall that is your 'Job Creating' track-record, isn't it Mitt?
Way to increase the 'standard of living' for the Middle Class, Mitt -- Over in China!

Jennifer Granholm, Michigan's Governor at the time of the Auto Loan-Bailout, has a few choice words for Mitt Romney, regarding what he said and did then versus what Mitt is 'taking credit' for now ...
Dear Mitt: No more lies. You did nothing to save Detroit.
