IL US Senator Mark Kirk suffered a massive stroke in January, and since then, he's been in hospital, or at the Rehab Institute (one of the best in the world) recovering function on his left side.
Details of his recuperation have been slim. I'm not totally without redeeming social value, so, despite a deep ideological divide between the senator and myself, on a human level, I have sympathized with his situation, especially so soon after having been elected to the Senate.
Today, I came across this:
As I watched this video of Senator Kirk obtaining absolutely the best healthcare that the US taxpayer can provide him, I thought to myself "how many Americans can't even dream of availing themselves of such advanced and costly care?"
And then, almost as though it were a compulsion, he ends his narrative in the video this way:
I can’t wait to go back to work, to vote to spend less, and borrow less, and tax less to help fix our economy
Right. It's OK for ME to have state-of-the-art medical care, but I can't wait to get back to work to make sure other people can't have what I've had.
I'm sorry. Medical condition or no, he's an asshole who has learned nothing from this massive lesson the universe tried to give him.
