Equal representation as laid out in the Constitution is a great concept but, the concept no longer works in the context in which it was founded. So I would like to make a new proposal for its application.
We have to look at Congress and how it works in it's present incarnation. The 1% is overwhelmingly represented by a majority in the house and a large number in the Senate. The 99% is represented by a minority in the house and a slim majority in the Senate. We need to rethink how the proportional representation applies to the issues not
to the population.
If the 1% is so well represented we need to look at it in the proportional context.
The House of Representatives has 435 members. Proportionally 1% of that number is 4.35. So the !% should be represented by 4 people. Ok, I'll be big about it, lets make it 5 people. The 99% should be represented by the rest of of House or 430 people.
The Senate, granted the representation of the Senate is not based on population but is consistent among the states, needs to be rethought also. States with huge populations are equal in representation to states with very small populations. My proposal is keep the 100 number but redistribute it so that the large states have a more equal voice in representing the needs of the a greater number of people.
I think the changes might go a long way in ending the grid lock that has crippled on Congress for years now. I understand that the actual changes being put in writing will probably never happen. But we can do a lot to help the numbers in the house by voting out the keepers of the flame for the !%. This will cost us 0 dollars and 0 changes to the Constitution. The power to do this is in our hands and we need to take control of the situation. WE MUST MAKE THESE CHANGES OR BE DOOMED TO THE SAME FATE OR WORSE. Vote for the 99%.
