I just couldn't think of a shorter, pithier title but I am cracking up that both Megan McCain and Bristol Palin feel compelled to weigh in on the President's announcement yesterday.
We need a third Bear and a Goldilocks so I'm assuming Mama Grizzly will be along soon to comment, but we still need a Goldilocks.
First up: "His Statment Was TOOO Small" Megan McCain. Follow me over the croissant d'Kos.
Waaaaaah cried the Megan Bear:
"I hate to rain on anyone’s parade or burst the enthusiasm bubble, but talk is especially cheap during an election season," she wrote. She argued that Obama needed to back legislation to legalize same-sex marriage to show a real commitment to his position.
although yesterday she was atwitter with her kudos to POTUS. Her disappointment continues:
However, she also elaborated on her disappointment with the president's announcement. McCain called some people's opposition to same-sex marriage "depressing," but argued there was a need to discuss the issue with detractors in terms of civil and constitutional rights. She said that the Obama did not do that in his endorsement.
The reason I find this laughable is 1.) What would your papa bear have done? Hint NOTHING. And 2.) What would your party have done? Hint: Worse than nothing because they're actively doing everything they can to prevent any same sex marriages anywhere. So Megan Bear, if you're really as passionate about equal rights as you claim to be, you need to divorce yourself from your party like they're divorced from reality.
Our next Bear says "His statement was TOOOOO BIGGGG"
Bristol Palin Weighs In On Obama's Gay Marriage Support
One sec. Wiping my keyboard down from having spit water through my nose laughing at being schooled by Unwed Teen Mama Reality TV Bristol Bear about marriage.
Commenting about the President's mention of considering the parents of Sasha and Malia's friends, Bristol Bear writes:
Bristol writes in a Facebook post that fathers should shape their kids' views, not the other way around:
While it’s great to listen to your kids’ ideas, there’s also a time when dads simply need to be dads. In this case, it would’ve been helpful for him to explain to Malia and Sasha that while her friends parents are no doubt lovely people, that’s not a reason to change thousands of years of thinking about marriage. Or that – as great as her friends may be – we know that in general kids do better growing up in a mother/father home. Ideally, fathers help shape their kids’ worldview.
See? Dads need to be homophobes. And is there anything funnier than Bristol Palin giving parenting advice to First Dad Barack Obama?
Of course there's the obligatory " Christian women get picked on" blurb which has to do with what, beyond another defense of Mama Grizzly and Swiss Miss Bachmann. I don't know:
Let’s pause for just one second. When Christian women run for high office, people inevitably bring up the question of submission. Once, Michele Bachmann, for example, was asked during a debate, “As president, would you be submissive to your husband?”
People automatically assume that a Christian female President isn’t capable of making decisions without her spouse’s stamp of approval. (I should add female Republican candidates –liberal women don’t get the same kind of questions.)
So are all those reporters who feared excessive family intervention in the White House all up in arms over the President’s announcement yesterday? Um. Not quite.
I guess it was the path to making her point about the President's statement but I need a map. Or some crumbs. Oops. Mixing my fairytales.
As for me, the President's statement was just right. Thank you Mr. President. I hope to send you an invite to my son's wedding someday.
