I know we all have a tendency to freak out when a poll comes out showing Romney beating Obama in a head-to-head national matchup. This is certainly the case with the new CBS/ New York Times poll that came out yesterday, showing Romney in the lead by several percentage points.
Well, you can come down off that ledge because I discovered that at this stage in the 2004 election, Kerry led G.W. Bush by 8 points, 49-41, in a CBS News poll conducted on 5/20-5/23, 2004.
Moreover, Bush's job approval/disapproval numbers sat at 41/52, much worse than where Obama's are now.

Plus, in the month of May that year, Kerry led in most of the polls, though not by as wide a margin as this one.

So just keep in mind that there will be much fluctuation in the polls between now and November and just keep working hard to get the POTUS re-elected.
