It looks like Romney is going to have an increasingly hard time making his case this year, as the economy continues to show signs of recovery in many areas. And his "brilliant" plan to let Detroit go broke sure isn't going to help him any. Not only are more cars being sold, more are also being produced.
President Obama, on the other hand, should increasingly be able to make the argument that his moves to avert economic catastrophe set the foundation for the continuing recovery of the U.S. economy, in which the auto industry is playing a large role.
Auto sales in the first quarter that were the strongest in four years have buoyed manufacturing, helping make up for a slowdown in corporate equipment purchases. At Chrysler, which builds more than half its vehicles in the U.S., sales climbed 20 percent in April, according to the company.
Half of the gain in factory output in April was due to a 3.9 percent surge in motor vehicles, today’s data showed.

Frigging Chrysler is recovering from its near-death experience! Now that's something that very few would have predicted a mere few years ago. One person, however, not only predicted it, but bet on it: President Obama. Not Mitt Romney. Not Jon Bohner. Not Eric Cantor. President Obama.
The good news for Democrats doesn't stop with the auto industry... we're also seeing increasing signs of a recovery in the housing market:
Housing starts and industrial production exceeded forecasts in April, pointing to strength in the U.S. economy at the start of the second quarter.
Starts rose 2.6 percent to a 717,000 annual rate from March’s revised 699,000 pace that was stronger than previously reported, Commerce Department figures showed today in Washington. Industrial production climbed 1.1 percent, the most since December 2010, the Federal Reserve said.
But hey, I'm sure that Romney and other asinine Republican snake oil salesmen will soon come along and try and tell us that Obama destroyed the auto industry, that the stimulus didn't work, and that the economy is terrible. This shouldn't really surprise anymore. It's what snake oil salesmen do, after all.
