This is the review I gave to the state of Kansas on Trip Advisor. As this site is moderated, I doubt it will ever appear.
"I have been very apprehensive about visiting Kansas because of its hate filled fundamentalist politicians who are waging a war on women, and practically anything that is considered to be part of of our modern society. One need only look up the voting record of the totally republican government of Kansas to confirm this. Regardless of this, as an RV'er, I've found that US Citizens across out nation are really friendly good people.
But my main takeaway from my visit to Kansas was the extra large sized billboard with a photo of President Obama, with the following text "Wannabe Marxist Dictator". This will be my main memory of Kansas, and the one that I will probably discuss with anyone planning on visiting Kansas. This billboard is located on a federal interstate highway, I-70. Note that the Republicans in the US Congress are blocking any funding to fix US highways or infrastructure, in an attempt to put their own political goals ahead of the american people.
When you head east on I-70 you will find this billboard located near exit 301, directly in front of an active military base, Fort Riley. Fort Riley is the HQ of the United States First Infantry Division, better known as the "Big Red One".
America is a free country, and we all have the right to our own opinions. But the message on this billboard is one of blind hatred, and one that distorts the facts. President Obama, a democratically elected President of the United States, is not a Dictator, and is clearly not a marxist.
One thing I noted about this billboard, is that I could not see any identification at the bottom or side of the billboard of exactly who or what organization was putting out this message. I tried to take a picture of this billboard but it passed so fast that I was not able to snap a photo of it.
Regardless of this, I still defend the right of the person who posted it to have the right to do so.
However, what I object to is the lack of any response or indignation from the US Army, or any member of the totally Republican legislative and executive staff of the State of Kansas on this issue. For this reason, I will not be providing and positive feedback on tourism in Kansas."
What I did not post is the following:
1) Why doesn't the Commandant of Fort Riley dissavow this billboard?
2) Why don't the Republican Legislature and Executive Branch of Kansas dissavow this billboard?
3) Who is responsible for this billboard?
4) Why is this billboard in front of the premier and most well known US Military Division HQ?
5) Are their other billboards/ads of this type in front of other US Military Bases?
6) Is this Ad done by a private person, or a superpac?
In addition to sending this to various Government Officials, and the Kansas Dept of Tourism, I have also requested the the Public Affairs Dept of the US 1st Infantry Division clarify their position on this billboard, which is prominent at the entrance to this US Military Base. Due to the slanderous nature against our Commander in Chief, and the fact that this billboard is located directly at the entrance to the HQ of the US 1st Infantry Division, I think it is appropriate for the US Army to clarify their position on this issue.
