While much grief has been given to the DNC over the last week for not giving money to Wisconsin Democrats to help support Barret et al in the June 5th recall elections, we should be thanking profusely the DGA (Democratic Governors Association).
Just this morning the DGA announced it would be writing another check for $1 Million to help fight Scott Walker and his radical right wing agenda. This brings the total contribution to Wisconsin from the DGA to $3 Million.
From ABC News:
DGA WRITES ANOTHER $1 MILLION CHECK. The Democratic Governors Association announced this morning that it is sending an additional $1 million to the DGA-affiliated group, Greater Wisconsin, to support ads already airing statewide, as well as get-out-the-vote efforts in the 12 days remaining until the June 5 recall. According to a DGA aide, “This brings DGA’s total investment to over $3 million in Wisconsin — more than both the 2006 and 2010 cycles — and underscores our commitment to highlighting Scott Walker’s worst-in-the-nation record on job creation and questions he refuses to answer over his role in the John Doe campaign corruption investigation.”
This annoucement is HUGE!
Why?
1 - We are at a point in this Recall election where the winner will be determined by who can get out the vote. But GOTV costs money and the ground game that is better organized should be a deciding factor. But GOTV cost money.
2 - The Dems have some fantastic adds but need money to keep them on the airwaves. Without $ there is no way to counter Walkers lies.
3 - Walker has outraised Barrett 25 to 1.
From PolitiFact:
Candidate Total raised with Pct. from out of state
Walker $25.3 million 57 percent
Barrett $831,510 13 percent
Almost 60% of Walkers money has come from out of state. In 2010, he only collected 7% of his contirbutions from out of state donors. That is how important it is to the GOTP and Koch Brothers for Walker to keep his job. The Republicans are all in - shouldn't we be too?
And, because of a wierd law that allows elected officials up for Recall to collect unlimited donations from donors, Walker has received some pretty BIG checks....
In the recall, Walker’s largest out-of-state contribution was $500,000 from Bob Perry, owner of Houston-based Perry Homes. The largest overall contributors were the Wisconsin Republican Party ($537,601) and Wisconsin billionaire Diane Hendricks ($510,000).
By the way, Diane Hendricks is the woman of "Divide and Conquer" fame.
Anyway, I want to express a big and well deserved THANK YOU to the DGA for not giving up on Wisconsin. We WILL win this, we are the good guys.
UPDATE: Puddytat has a fantastic diary detailing how this money is being put to good use: Your Donations At Work In Wisconsin - Thank You.
