This is it. Whether you want to recall Governor Walker because you are a teacher or because you have children and you care about Walker’s cuts to public education, or if its because you care about the sale of public assets, or because you are a hunter, it’s now time to do it. This is it. This is what we have been working on for the past year and a half. This is what we came to the Capitol for in February of last year, this is what we gathered the signatures for in the dead of winter. This is it, our fate is in our hands and the eyes of the nation are upon us.
Now, and this is important: For the last year and a half we have been reaching out, educating, persuading, pleading. That all stops now. From here on, what needs to happen is quite simple: we need to vote. We need to make sure that everyone who supports the recall, votes. Today. We need to make sure that everyone who needs a ride to go and vote, gets a ride to go and vote. Today.
And that’s the other thing: We have an amazing luxury at our disposal because the voting has already begun, and that means we have no time to waste. The only reason Scott Walker will beat the recall is because we do not vote. Do not give him that satisfaction. A recent poll showed that only 83% of Democrats are planning to vote and 91% of Republicans plan to do the same. That means that our job now is not to reach out to the Republicans and explain why Scott Walker is bad for Wisconsin. The time for that has passed. It means that our job now is to take that 83% and turn it into 100% by voting, asking our friends to vote, helping give rides and doing anything else we can to bring supporters of the recall to the polls.
There are plenty of reasons to recall Scott Walker and each of us has their favorites. But I do not want to wake up on June 6 knowing that Scott Walker beat the recall because I didn’t do everything that I could. And neither do you. There’s simply too much at stake to spare any effort. The entire country is waiting for Wisconsin to show it the way and it is entirely within our grasp to do that.
And now you went and you voted. Great! Now what? Do we sit back and wait for the votes to be counted on June 5th? No! Contact your local Recall Walker headquarters, otherwise known as your local Democratic Party, and volunteer to do a 3 hour shift (or more) canvassing. If you can’t walk, sit down and make phone calls to others (you don’t even have to worry about your cell phone minutes – phones will be provided for you to use). Go, talk to other like-minded individuals, remind them that its time to go and vote, offer them a ride and ask them to volunteer.
There! And just in case this was too complicated, consider this approach: when you go to vote, take two people with you, and have one of those two, not be a relative of yours.
Remember, we are all in this together. All of us will feel the consequences of what will take place on June 5th and in order to recall Scott Walker, we must work together.
Together, we will finish what Scott Walker started a year and a half ago, and restore respect for Wisconsin!
